Job Overview

A leading healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Anatomic Pathology Operations Manager to oversee the daily clinical technical and administrative operations of its Anatomic Pathology and Histology services.

This leadership position is responsible for maintaining high standards of laboratory quality regulatory compliance employee competency patient safety and operational performance. The Operations Manager will supervise laboratory personnel support quality-control initiatives manage staffing and departmental resources and collaborate closely with hospital leadership pathologists clinical teams and external vendors.

The ideal candidate will have strong supervisory experience within Anatomic Pathology or Histology extensive hospital laboratory experience and an active qualifying New York State laboratory license.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise testing and daily operations performed by laboratory scientists cytotechnologists histotechnologists pathology supervisors Pathologists Assistants histotechnicians and laboratory assistants
  • Ensure the delivery of accurate timely and high-quality laboratory services
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies and applicable regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Oversee departmental quality-control programs and prepare monthly quality reports
  • Monitor laboratory turnaround times and identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Train coach mentor and support laboratory supervisors and staff
  • Ensure completion of employee orientation annual competencies continuing education and required training
  • Interview hire evaluate counsel and develop department employees
  • Prepare employee schedules payroll records and time sheets as required
  • Promote a safe working environment for employees and patients
  • Maintain current knowledge of laboratory operations procedures equipment and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in performance-improvement programs committees task forces and departmental projects
  • Communicate hospital policies operational updates and quality initiatives to staff
  • Collaborate with physicians hospital leadership nursing clinical departments and interdisciplinary teams
  • Develop departmental goals objectives operating budgets and capital equipment requests
  • Support the implementation and optimization of laboratory and computer systems
  • Assist with instrument interfaces test builds worksheets and report formatting
  • Maintain productive vendor relationships and resolve equipment supply and service concerns
  • Document new test implementation validation and staff training
  • Serve as a positive change agent and support organizational initiatives
  • Perform the responsibilities of sectional or assistant supervisors when operationally necessary
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to changing departmental needs
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient employee and organizational information

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology Medical Technology Clinical Science or a related scientific field
  • Four to six years of relevant hospital laboratory experience
  • Previous supervisory or management experience within Anatomic Pathology or Histology
  • Current New York State license in at least one of the following areas:
    • Clinical Laboratory Technologist
    • Cytotechnologist
    • Histotechnologist
    • Pathologists Assistant
  • Strong knowledge of Anatomic Pathology Histology laboratory quality control and regulatory compliance
  • Experience supervising laboratory employees and managing daily department operations
  • Ability to oversee employee competency training performance and professional development
  • Strong organizational communication leadership and problem-solving skills
  • High level of attention to detail and adaptability
  • Ability to remain effective in high-pressure or rapidly changing situations
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems computers and related laboratory equipment

Preferred

  • Six or more years of relevant hospital laboratory experience
  • ASCP certification
  • Experience managing laboratory budgets capital equipment requests and departmental performance goals
  • Experience with laboratory software implementation instrument interfacing test configuration and report development
  • Previous experience overseeing multiple Anatomic Pathology disciplines or laboratory sections

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to move throughout the laboratory department and hospital frequently
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods
  • Frequent use of computers office equipment and laboratory equipment
  • Ability to assess and respond quickly to departmental operational needs
  • Potential exposure to laboratory chemicals and other materials necessary to perform assigned responsibilities
  • Ability to follow all established safety procedures and hazardous-material guidelines
