JOB DESCRIPTION

Alumni & Career Services Peer Mentors help assist fellow students with their professional development by conducting resume & cover letter evaluations and mock interviews appointments.

Alumni & Career Services is seekingenergetic friendly and motivated students who have a passion for helping others achieve their professional goals. Peer mentors help develop confident professional and connected students for lifelong career success. This is accomplished by providing dynamic career coaching and programming to meet the demands of an ever-changing workforce.

Job Responsibilities

As a Peer Mentor you will be expected to fulfill ayear commitment primarily assisting with:

  • Meeting with students one-on-one to revise resumes and cover letters and facilitating mock interviews
  • Mentoring students about their professional and academic goals
  • Assisting students with compiling application materials for finding employment
  • Accurately tracking and entering student appointment data in Handshake
  • Actively promoting Career Services resources and information through creative mediums (i.e. campus tabling classroom presentations etc.)
  • Completing tasks and projects as assigned including Career Services event assistance
  • Instructing students on networking for career fairs and tabling events
  • Preparing paperwork for your student appointments
  • Completing special outreach projects for Career Services
  • Assisting our Career Coordinators with planning and preparing for networking events
  • Conduct workshops and classroom and special group presentations job and career fairs campus recruiting Handshake management and etiquette dinners/lunches.

Training

Peer Mentors are considered an essential part of Alumni & Career Services and will be required to attend training sessions at the beginning of the semester as well as scheduled team meetings to ensure they are providing customers with the most effective and accurate feedback and information.

Qualifications

  • Have an interest in helping other college students
  • Demonstrate excellent oral written and interpersonal communication
  • Be able to work independently take initiative and solve problems
  • Must be reliable punctual organized and detail-oriented
  • Be outgoing and energetic and have excellent customer service skills (in person and over the phone)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Maintain professional behavior and dress appropriately (business casual)
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality of student information
  • Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with a team of professionals and other students
  • Ability to show high proficiency in reviewing resumes cover letters and mock interviews
  • Be a current undergraduate CMU student in good academic standing

Compensation

  • Work Study or MAVworksawardrequired; to verify your award status view the Financial Aid Offers link in your MAVzone
  • Students will start at an hourly rate of $16.50
