Location: Yuma Arizona as a place to actually livenot just visitthere are several things that make it unusually appealing.
- The winter weather is outstanding. Yuma is extraordinarily sunny with tourism officials citing 300 days of sunshine a year. Winters are mild enough that hiking golf grilling boating and sitting outside can be normal January activities.
- You get a real river in the middle of the desert. The Colorado River gives Yuma something many Southwestern cities lack: boating kayaking paddleboarding fishing beaches wetlands and green riverfront areas.
- The surrounding landscape is spectacular. You have Sonoran Desert scenery wildlife refuges hiking and mountain biking plus the massive Imperial Sand Dunes nearby for off-roading and exploring.
- Mexico is right there. Yumas location on the ArizonaMexico border gives you easy access to Mexican food culture shopping and cross-border day trips. It also puts Yuma roughly between Phoenix and San Diego making weekend escapes to either major metro practical.
- Its big enough to function like a city without feeling like Phoenix. Yuma had about 95500 residents at the 2020 Census so you have restaurants medical services shopping parks and infrastructure without living in a multi-million-person metro area.
- Theres considerably more greenery and recreation than the word desert suggests. The city maintains hundreds of acres of parks and recreational facilities while the Colorado River corridor and wetlands give parts of Yuma a genuine oasis feel.
- It has character and history. Historic Downtown the Yuma Territorial Prison area Colorado River State Historic Park and the Yuma Crossing heritage district give the community an identity that goes well beyond subdivisions and strip malls.
