Duties

A WGAIRCRAFT MECHANIC:

  • Perform inspections functional checks and preventive maintenance on assigned aircraft to include pre-inspection daily inspection pre- and post-flight inspections and such special inspections as required including fuel contamination checks oil sampling an inspection of onboard emergency equipment.
  • Conducts checks on hydraulic electrical transmission power systems etc.
  • Troubleshoots diagnoses and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft.
  • Performs the full range of repair and testing of aircraft system assemblies and surfaces.
  • Uses a variety of methods involving test equipment visual checks and instruments diagnoses and identifies problem areas and determines the extent of repairs required.
  • Removes components and assemblies repairs or replaces defective parts and components and reassembles repaired items into the aircraft.
  • Installs aligns and makes needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines propeller/rotors transmissions hydraulic systems etc. assisting Specialists as required.
  • Accomplishes adjustments to related systems which may be affected by repairs.
  • Conducts ground functional tests of all aircraft systems.
  • Services aircraft with oil de-icing fluid fuel and hydraulic fluid.
  • Launches and recovers assigned and transient aircraft; performs inspections prior to takeoff.
  • Inspects for conditions such as oil fuel and hydraulic leak cut linestires and loose panels.
  • May be required to perform such additional duties as fire fighting aircraft crash/rescue snow removal etc
  • Other duties as assigned.(temporary minor or incidental tasks)

    MILITARY REQUIREMENTS:

    Military Grades: PFC (E3) to SFC (E7)

    Desired Military Assignments: 15T

    - Applicants need not be assigned to the position or possess the MOS to apply or be considered for selection. Selected applicant must be assigned to a compatible Military position and attain MOS within 1 year of appointment action.

    - May be required to successfully complete a trial period.

    - Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

    - All soldiers civilian employees and contractor employees who drive Army-owned or leased vehicles must complete the Army Avoidance Course (AAC) training when they start working for the Army. Must have a valid Washington state and military drivers license. Must be able to obtain a Government Travel Card (GTC) and be able to attend all schools deemed necessary by the supervisor.

    - Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

    - Must maintain membership in the WA Army National Guard for continued employment.

    - Must be able to obtain within one year of appointment and maintain the appropriate SECRET security clearance of the position.

    - For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles candidates must have a valid state drivers license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.

    - This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.

    - Position requires ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.

    - May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.

    - The duties and responsibilities of your job may significantly impact the environment. You are responsible to maintain awareness of your environmental responsibilities as dictated by legal and regulatory requirements your organization and its changing mission.

    Qualifications

    GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

    Experience or training that has provided the ability to perform assembly and disassembly operations and make prescribed modifications to aircraft propeller assemblies and their components in accordance with technical specifications procedures and requirements. Experience using hand and power tools common to the trade.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
    Must have at least 18 months experience or training performing standard routine assembly and disassembly operations and making prescribed modifications to aircraft propellers assemblies and accessories. Experience or training performing maintenance overhaul troubleshooting testing and repair of aircraft propellers components for rotary wing aircraft. Experience determining maintenance needed from work orders inspection reports historical record and by own diagnosis.

    - Certain incentive(s) may be available pending funding and approval but are not guaranteed.

    - If you are a male applicant who was born after 12/31/1959 and are required to register under the Military Selective Service Act the Defense Authorization Act of 1986 requires that you be registered or you are not eligible for appointment in this agency ( Military Technicians are ineligible for enlistment retention and student loan repayment bonuses. Acceptance of a Technician position will terminate these incentives.

    - Military Technicians in the excepted service will wear the appropriate uniform while performing as a Technician.

    - Veterans preference does not apply to National Guard Technician positions in accordance with Title 32 USC 709 (f).

    - May be required to successfully complete a trial period.

    REEMPLOYED ANNUITANT: In accordance with Section 9902(g) of Title 5 United States Code (U.S.C.) annuitants reemployed in the DoD will receive full annuity and salary upon appointment. They will not be eligible for retirement contributions participation in the Thrift Savings Plan or a supplemental or redetermined annuity for the reemployment period. Discontinued service retirement annuitants (i.e. retired in accordance with Section 8336(d)(1) or Section8414(b)(1)(A) of Title 5 U.S.C.) appointed to the DoD may elect to be subject to retirement provisions of the new appointment as appropriate.
