Job Summary

JOB GOAL

To aid and support assigned teachers and certified personnel in implementing high-quality instructional programs intervention supports and student engagement initiatives that align with The Watson Way and the mission of creating a culture of learning growth and achievement for all students. The paraprofessional will assist in fostering an environment where students are actively engaged supported academically and behaviorally and prepared to SOAR academically socially and emotionally.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Nine and one-fourth (9.25) month (184 days) contract Table 803 Grade plus benefits package.

NOTE: Precise placement within the salary range will be determined based upon experience.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of 60 semester credit hours at a regionally accredited institution of higher education an Associate Degree or passing score on the ParaPro Praxis Exam (457 or above).
  • Demonstrates competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Typing and basic technology skills preferred.
  • Possesses positive interpersonal and communication skills with students staff and families.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to student-centered learning engagement and high expectations for all children.
  • Ability to support a diverse student population including English Learners and students requiring academic intervention.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of records and student information.
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to equitable and quality education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a Professional Learning Community (PLC) and instructional team.
  • Such alternatives and additions to the above qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and Board.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reinforces instructional activities with students as prescribed by the teacher.
  • Supports teachers in implementing engaging standards-based instruction aligned to district curriculum expectations.
  • Assists with small-group instruction intervention groups and WIN Time (What I Need) supports.
  • Helps create a classroom environment that reflects The Watson Way through positive student engagement routines and expectations.
  • Assists in the preparation and organization of lesson materials instructional resources and classroom activities.
  • Learns and supports the curriculum content and instructional practices utilized within assigned classrooms.
  • Provides additional assistance to students requiring academic language or behavioral support including English Learners.
  • Supports teachers with classroom management procedures and implementation of behavior intervention strategies.
  • Assists with monitoring and collecting student academic and behavioral data.
  • Supports student transitions and actively assists in maintaining a safe orderly and engaging learning environment.
  • Assists with classroom organization displays instructional centers and maintenance of materials.
  • Supervises and assists students during lunchroom recess arrival dismissal bus duty and other assigned duties.
  • Encourages students to demonstrate positive behaviors aligned to school expectations including being an Attendance HERO Here Every day Ready and On time.
  • Participates in professional development faculty meetings PLC discussions school events and required trainings.
  • Demonstrates professionalism reliability teamwork and a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Completes daily work schedules and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the teacher principal or designee.

MENTAL FUNCTIONS PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit stand walk climb stairs operate hand and foot controls use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perception of sound near and far vision depth perception handling and working with educational materials and objects and providing oral information.

The employee must have the ability to work for the duration of the contracted workday and be physically present at the assigned work location with only infrequent unexcused absences during the contract year.

Additional technical skills knowledge and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
