As the Aftercare Supervisor you are responsible for supporting the safe structured and engaging operation of the schools aftercare program. This position provides direct supervision of students during after-school hours and helps create an environment that promotes student safety positive behavior social development independence and appropriate recreational and enrichment activities.
â Responsibilities Include:
- Providing active and consistent supervision of students participating in the aftercare program to ensure their health safety and well-being at all times.
- Creating and maintaining a safe structured welcoming and supportive aftercare environment that is responsive to the developmental behavioral social and individual needs of students.
- Planning organizing facilitating and supervising age-appropriate recreational enrichment social educational and leisure activities consistent with program expectations and available resources.
- Supporting students in following established school expectations classroom routines behavioral guidelines and appropriate social interactions.
- Treating all students with dignity respect patience and professionalism while promoting positive relationships among students and staff.
- Utilizing appropriate behavior-support and de-escalation strategies consistent with school policies student plans and staff training.
- Maintaining active awareness of student locations and activities and responding promptly to situations that may affect student safety or program operations.
- Reporting student concerns behavioral incidents injuries safety issues unusual circumstances or other significant events promptly to the School Director or designated school administrator.
- Following all established emergency health safety incident-reporting and crisis-response procedures.
- Supporting students with developmentally appropriate personal care organization hygiene and self-management routines as required within the scope of the position and consistent with school procedures.
- Maintaining aftercare classrooms activity areas materials and equipment in a clean orderly organized and safe condition.
- Assisting with routine housekeeping and program setup and cleanup activities associated with the aftercare program.
- Ensuring supplies activity materials recreational equipment and other program resources are used appropriately and stored safely.
- Participating in end-of-day dismissal procedures and ensuring each student is released only to an authorized parent guardian caregiver transportation provider or other approved adult in accordance with established school procedures.
- Verifying student departure information and promptly communicating discrepancies late pickups or other dismissal concerns to the appropriate school administrator.
- Welcoming students parents guardians caregivers and visitors in a courteous professional and respectful manner.
- Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with students families coworkers school leadership and other members of the school community.
- Communicating relevant student or program information to appropriate staff while maintaining required confidentiality.
- Collaborating with teachers instructional assistants related-service providers administrators and other school personnel to promote continuity of expectations and student support.
- Supporting a positive team environment by communicating effectively demonstrating flexibility assisting colleagues and contributing to the successful operation of the program.
- Maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with students and families.
- Protecting the confidentiality of student family employee and organizational information in accordance with company policies and applicable requirements.
- Participating in required and recommended training professional development meetings conferences and other learning opportunities to maintain and strengthen job-related knowledge and skills.
- Maintaining current knowledge of applicable student-supervision youth-development behavior-support health and safety practices relevant to the aftercare program.
- Complying with all applicable federal state and local requirements as well as Spectrum Center and ChanceLight policies procedures safety expectations and standards of professional conduct.
- Demonstrating regular and reliable attendance and reporting to work as scheduled to ensure appropriate student supervision and program coverage.
- Performing other duties as assigned to support students the aftercare program and overall school operations.
â Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
- Associates degree or higher in a related field of study preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.
- Prior experience working with children adolescents or young adults in an educational childcare recreation after-school behavioral health special education or related setting is highly preferred.
- Highly skilled in working with children with learning disabilities emotional behavioral disorders autism spectrum disorders and/or other related disabilities.
- Exceptional organizational skills attention to detail and adapts easily to changing priorities or unforeseen circumstances.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of staff members students parents and the public.
- Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.
- Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.
- Advanced oral and written communication organization conflict resolution multitasking problem solving and decision-making ability.
- Well-versed in the use of relevant technology including experience with computers Microsoft Office Suite database entry and basic office equipment.
