Job Summary
General Description:
The teacher is responsible for the academic social and psychological growth of students in the classroom. The teacher is to provide a high quality education for children in a safe and culturally inclusive environment that promotes learning through exploration. The teacher collaborates with school personnel parents and community agencies to provide high quality instructional programs and to perform other duties related to this position description. It is the obligation of the Teacher to work in concert with the respective charter document (also referred to as charter petition) and to follow the guidelines and policies as set forth by the petition and as enunciated by the Principal AEA Board of Trustees and the California State Board of Education. The Teacher will report directly to the site Principal.

Essential Functions:
- To work with the Principal and staff to develop implement reflect upon and
- improve a school curriculum that reflects the AEA mission and the respective
- schools vision and addresses the California content standards and Frameworks
- in a thematic approach that allows Teachers to teach and students to learn.
- Works cooperatively with culturally racially and linguistically diverse students
- and their parents.
- Evaluates the individual needs of all students and develops an educational
- learning plan that addresses those needs and reflects the curriculum.
- Provides weekly and long-term lesson planning that is thorough and complete
- available for Administration upon request. Provides academically rigorous
- substitute plans that are completed by the start of the school year and clearly
- identified for anyone entering the room.
- All classroom instruction is aligned to the appropriate common core standards
- and is clear so that students parents and staff fully understand the objective of
- daily lessons. Demonstrates content expertise models and uphold academic
- excellence and achievement at all times.
- Develops classroom thematic units based upon International Baccalaureate
- guidelines (IBPYP and IBMYP) applicable to respective schools. These units and
- IB terminology (including but not limited to the IB Learner Profile) should be
- visible and audible in classrooms in the form of unit boards.
- Assesses student performance with the respective IB programs in alignment
- with AEA assessment and reporting guidelines.
- Determines students needs and abilities and determines methods and
- techniques to best present and provide instruction.
- Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate pupils and best utilize
- the available time for instruction.
- Assesses student test performance results and develops lesson plans and
- instructional materials for the class including individualized and small group
- instruction as necessary in order to adapt the curriculum performance standards
- to the needs of each pupil.
- Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a
- functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
- Evaluates academic and social growth of pupils keeps appropriate records
- prepares progress reports and communicates with parents on the individual
- pupils progress.
- Cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping
- pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.
- Researches and utilizes community resources available to the school and plans
- and organizes curriculum-appropriate field trips and other activities to expand
- the learning opportunities of all children.
- Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
- Creates a functional and attractive environment for learning through such things
- as displays bulletin boards and interest centers.
- Maintains professional competence through participation in professional
- development education activities provided by AEA and/or self-selected activities.
- Administers examinations as mandated by AEA and the state.
- Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree
- Valid California Teaching Credential in the assigned subject area(s)
- Fingerprint clearance
- TB clearance
- Current CPR training

Skills/Abilities
- The primary responsibility of the Teacher is to supervise the children in her/his
- care. Wherever they may be on campus whether in the library computer room or
- playground. Teachers are responsible for direct student supervision at all times.
- Teachers must be vigilant in order to protect the safety and well-being of all
- students.
- To maintain a current website and daily email use to be used for communicating
- with parents and staff.
- To participate in regularly-scheduled parent/teacher conferences held on a
- semesterly basis during the school year.
- To communicate clearly accurately and in a timely manner to students and
- parents regarding the classroom expectations for academic performance
- conduct procedures and classroom interaction with other students and the
- Teacher. The Principal should be provided with copies of all parent
- communication.
- To develop in consultation with the Principal goals and objectives for each
- school year which become the basis for performance evaluation as applicable.
- To promptly and proactively inform the Principal of problems (or potential
- problems) or challenges in the classroom and/or involving parents of intra-staff
- interaction.
- Teacher supervision before/after school is required and is scheduled on a weekly
- basis.
- To work with the Principal in the preparation and execution of safety procedures:
- fire earthquake and other potential disaster situations.
- To attend all regularly-scheduled Faculty meetings and in-services unless
- otherwise approved by the Principal.
Additional Non-Instructional Duties Could Includebut are not limited to the following:
- Participating in student promotional ceremonies
- Participating in IEP and SST Meetings
- Meeting with Administration
- Preparation for and participation in the Spring Open House
- Preparation for and participation in the Back-to-School Night
- Visits to other school sites to observe best-practices.
- Welcoming frequent and often unscheduled visits from the Principal and/or other faculty members conducted in the spirit of professional growth and development and the betterment of the AEA faculty team
- Maintaining an open classroom understanding that the school has many visitors and that classrooms reflect who we are and what we do.
- Participating in general parent meetings and special evening presentations sponsored by the school when necessary (Parent University etc.).
- Exemplifying the best ideals of the teaching profession at all times while on campus and participating in school-sponsored events and activities.
- Creating a classroom environment that establishes clear consistent expectations for students.
- Supporting and monitoring the schools student uniform policy.
- This position may require limited driving with a personal vehicle for transport
- between AEA campuses and off-campus school events.
Other Considerations:
- Doors should always be locked upon leaving the classroom.
- Students should NEVER be left in a classroom without adult supervision or placed outside the classroom door in an unsupervised setting.
- Teachers should not provide students with classroom keys even for temporary
- use.
- General classroom appearance should always be neat and clean.
- Maintenance or repair problems must be reported to the office or custodian
- immediately.
- All pathways/walkways within the classroom must be clear of clutter or
- obstacles at all times.
- No student work banners flags signs etc. may be hung from any classroom
- ceilings as per CA fire safety code.
- School rules state that gum and soda are not allowed on campus; Teachers
- should provide a model of this requirement.
- Essential physical requirements necessary to perform this job:
- The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by
- an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to work at a desk conference table or in meetings of various
- configurations.
- Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
- Ability to sit on the ground on carpet for an extended period of time.
- Ability to lift and move and carry objects of up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to see for purposes of reading correspondence documents and printed
- matter and observing students.
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal
- conversation.
