Job Summary

Summary

You will serve as a Administrative Officer with National Park Service. This position manages the complex and complicated administrative and business operations of the park. The Chief of Administration/Business Manager is the principal advisor and management consultant to the Superintendent and park management team for administrative matters and is often required to troubleshoot a wide range of unusual situations.


Duties

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

  • As a member of the park management team plans analyzes and monitors the formulation and development of complex and/or highly sensitive park-wide plans programs procedures operating policies internal controls and program goals.
  • Responsible for keeping the parks revenues and spending inbalance through authoritative advice and supervision of the staff of the Administration/Business Office dedicated to budget and financial management on a day to day basis
  • Responsible for development of procedures and for operations of internal controls established to eliminate waste and prevent fraud in the usage of Government properties and resources.
  • Oversees the work of employees who provide support in the areas of payroll and timekeeping bills of collection payment of invoices internal control an audit and travel services.

    This probationary period is an extension of the appointment process and therefore requires the agency to determine if continued employment would advance the public interest meet the organization goals and mission of the agency and/or otherwise promote the efficiency of the determining if your employment advances the public interest the agency will consider: your performance and conduct; the needs and interests of the agency; whether your continued employment would advance organizational goals of the agency or the Government; and whether your continued employment would advance the efficiency of the Federal service.

    Under applicable law the employment of an individual serving a probationary or trial period automatically terminates when that period ends unless the agency affirmatively certifies in writing that the individuals employment should continue and that their appointment should be the absence of agency action to affirmatively certify continued employment beyond the probationary period such appointments are terminated. Upon completion of your probationary period your employment will be terminated unless you receive certification in writing that your continued employment advances the public interest.

    This is a supervisory position that may require completion of a supervisory probationary period.

    Qualifications

    All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement - 09/11/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Competitive candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements as defined in 5 CFR 300 Subpart F.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements: To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level:

    Experience: To qualify you must possess at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as demonstrated experience: managing administrative and business
    operations of an organization including budget formulation and execution financial management human resources management and acquisition and procurement; analyzing and assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of business activities; and providing guidance to management and other stakeholders. You must include hours per week worked.


    Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies knowledge and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience including volunteer experience.
