Administrative Fellow
Job Summary
University of Iowa Health Care (UI Health Care) is hiring an administrative fellow for 2027-2029 a two-year opportunity. The fellow will report to the Administrative Chief of Staff of the UI Health Care Clinical Enterprise. The core responsibilities of the fellowship will be focused within the hospital.
The University of Iowa Health Care Administrative Fellowship provides a foundational project-based post-graduate experience for aspiring health care administrators in academic medicine. The fellow will have broad involvement interaction and exposure to the corporate operations of this nationally ranked teaching hospital and health sciences campus. The position aims to develop a greater understanding of issues central to UI Health Care through supporting a broad range of projects of operational and strategic importance in partnership with clinical and administrative leaders. This position requires systematic substantial in-depth knowledge of the field of healthcare administration. This knowledge is typically acquired through a graduate program resulting in the issuance of a masters degree in healthcare administration business administration public health or a similar discipline.
Position Responsibilities:
The Administrative Fellows will benefit from ongoing interaction with the entire administrative team involving a broad case of operational content of the experience is tailored to best match individual and organizational such the following components and characteristics provide a framework for defining the fellowship experience:
Professional Growth
Attend and participate in leadership meetings in which direction policy and strategic planning issues are addressed.
Have one-on-one meetings and rounding with leaders across the organization to learn about their departments.
Participate in Executive Leadership Academy a program run by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer to provide promising leaders across the organization with leadership education and mentorship.
Data Tracking & Analyses
Track and analyze performance metrics for quarterly meetings between department leadership and CEOs Office.
Analyze drivers of U.S. News Rankings results.
Analyze data for departmental performance.
Project Management
Partner with clinical department leadership on strategic initiatives and other follow-up items aimed at improving metrics across our five organizational pillars.
Run other projects that are of strategic or operational importance to Executive Leadership during the time of the Fellowship.
People Management
Run the recruitment hiring and onboarding processes for the following administrative fellow and summer interns.
Required Qualifications:
Masters degree in Hospital Administration Business Administration or a similar degree from a CAHME (Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education) or equivalent accredited graduate program prior to the fellowship start date.
Strong academic performance
Relevant experience (1-3 years) in healthcare or a health industry or business administration-related job
Outstanding verbal written and interpersonal communication skills. Excellent presentation skills.
Proficiency in computer software applications.
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
Possess the ability to analyze complex data and report metrics.
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated interest in a career in academic medical center administration.
