Job Summary

Eureka College is seeking an adjunct professor in Critical Reading and Application to support the Student Success team for the fall semester 2026 (and potentially beyond). This position will teach 2 3-credit courses (with 12-15 students each) at the introductory level to our College Connect cohort. College Connect at EC is a grant funded program that supports first-year students with the transition to college; closing the gap between secondary coursework and their higher education academic aim of this course is toimprove reading rate and flexibility. The course should also emphasize comprehension vocabulary development and textbook reading strategies as related to reading efficiency and overall college-level academic performance.

This position is an adjunct professor part-time paid per credit hour taught and currently listed only for the fall semester (August to December) 2026. There is potential for future courses in the future. The position will report to the Provost and/or Associate Provost.

EDUCATION:

Essential:Bachelors Degree from an accredited four-year college or university Bachelors Degree from a regionally accredited college or university required preferably in Adult Education Special Education Secondary Education ELA and/or Reading Teacher Endorsement.

Desirable: Masters Degree from a regionally accredited college/university in Literacy Education Adult Education Curriculum and Instruction Special Education or Secondary Education ELA or Reading Specialist Endorsement.

EXPERIENCE:

Essential: 1-3 years experience teaching and/or tutoring Reading in any educational setting

Desirable: 3 years teaching reading to high school age or adult students; 3 years designing curriculum to fit the needs of a specific student population

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS ABILITIES:

Willingness to innovate and design curriculum for a program new to Eureka College

Strong knowledge of current best practices in adult literacy interventions and progress monitoring between education and assessment

Skilled in working with other faculty and staff to achieve common goal of improving students reading abilities

Ability to work with diverse groups of students

Demonstrated commitment to educational excellence

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Teams email and LMS software

Knowledge of reading-related disabilities and common accommodations for those disabilities

Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

WORK SCHEDULE:

The Reading Specialist adjunct faculty will be responsible for being on campus to:

Be present and support College Connect (August 8-14)
Teach 2 sections of in-person courses in reading (RDG095 or RDG199)
Hold regular and scheduled office hours each week (approximately 5)
