Adjunct Instructor – Applied GeoAI

Position Summary

The Adjunct Instructor Applied GeoAI teaches part-time students in Continuing & Professional Studies. Under the direction of the Director of Data Studies this position focuses on teaching and educational activities particularly the instruction and retention of modern learners and helping to ensure the quality of these programs.

The instructor will develop and teach the Introduction to GeoAI course starting fall 2026.

The instructor will have an opportunity to teach other courses for the Applied GeoAI certificate as needed such as the GeoAI Portfolio course.

This position is part-time and not benefits eligible.

• Hours may vary to provide coverage of classes and events. Occasional evening/weekend programs and activities; events may occur outside of traditional work hours (e.g. webinars Zoom Office Hours online orientation etc.).

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Instruction and Curriculum Development

• Teach courses based on the program curriculum using expertise and professional experience and in a manner that advances student knowledge.
• Prepare a syllabus for the course(s).
• Teach lectures for the Introduction to GeoAI course.
• Prepare quizzes labs and exams.
• Grade assignments and exams providing feedback within 7 days of submission of completed assignments.
• Work with the Director of Data Studies to develop and assess the implementation of curriculum for new courses and programs.
• Assist in the implementation and maintenance of a relevant high-quality curriculum.
• Collaborate with external individuals and organizations to foster student opportunities for innovative practical experiences.
• Participate in program assessment.
• Complete all required instructional and annual compliance training.

Student Advising

• Maintain regular office hours and availability for students to discuss questions regarding the course content.
• Coordinate with support staff on necessary course substitutions intent to graduate independent study and discipline/failure to perform paperwork.
• Coordinate with Director of Student Engagement & Success to establish student support.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Masters in Geography Geographic Information Science or an appropriate related field.
• 1 3 years as a primary course instructor at the college/university level.

Preferred Qualifications

• PhD in Geography Geographic Information Science or an appropriate field.
• Excellent interpersonal communication presentation and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated experience in relationship building.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups including students faculty staff and University counterparts who direct advising activities.
• Goal-oriented results-focused self-starter with the ability to work autonomously and confidentially; able to make independent decisions set/attain goals and follow through with projects.
