Job Summary

Job Summary:

Assist students in achieving their educational goals by offering advisement support and interpretations of University policies and procedures. Serve as a liaison to other departments on campus and provides special services to traditional non-traditional post-baccalaureate transfer new and returning students.

Essential Functions:

30% Provide advisement to students regarding academic career and personal matters.

20% Establish and maintain contact with students to monitor academic progress and eligibility of readmission conditional or transfer students. Facilitate the application process for students and perform related administrative duties.

20% Act as a liaison between students and various academic and non-academic departments. Refer students to appropriate services and departments when necessary.

10% Maintain accurate student records while using computers to generate reports and communicate with students.

10% Conduct academic workshops for students and coordinates professional development seminars for advisers.

10% Participate in departmental and University-wide committee assignments. Update written material provided by departments and colleges for students.

Additional Position Information:

Education:

Requires a relevant Masters Degree.

Licenses/Certifications/Requirements:

None.

Experience:

Experience working with students and others in an educational or agency environment required. Organizational computer and excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Prefer a minimum of 2 years experience in academic advising and counseling in post-secondary/higher education.

Leadership:

No authority or responsibility for the supervision of others.

Physical Requirements:

Job is physically comfortable; individual is normally seated and has discretion about walking standing etc. May occasionally lift very lightweight objects.

Working Conditions:

No major sources of working conditions discomfort standard working environment with possible minor inconveniences due to occasional noise crowded working conditions minor heating/cooling or ventilation problems and/or up to 40% use of PC terminal.
