QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must hold valid Michigan Teaching Certificate in area of responsibility with appropriate endorsement.
  • Bachelors Degree in area of major study.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO:Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To create a flexible elementary grade program and class environment to motivate students to develop skills attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for upper elementary education.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Teaches reading language arts social studies mathematics science and health to students in a classroom utilizing courseof study adopted by the Board of Education.

  2. Instructs students in citizenship and basic subject matterspecified in state law and administrative regulations andprocedures of the School District.

  3. Develops lessons plans and instructional materials and providesindividualizes and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the school District.

  4. Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to bestutilize a functional time for instruction.

  5. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed toachieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.

  6. Evaluates students academic and social growth keeps appropriateRecords and prepares progress reports.

  7. Communicates with parents through conferences Meet the Teacher Night and other means to discuss student progress and interpret in schoolprogram.

  8. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health attitudeand learning problems.

  9. Creates a functional learning environment through attractivedisplays bulletin boards and interest centers.

  10. Maintains professional competence though in-service educationactivities provided by the District and/or self-selected

    professional growth activities.

  11. Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintainsrequired inventory records.

  12. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during theassigned work day.

  13. Administers group standardizes tests in accordance with Districttesting program.

  14. Participates in Faculty committees and the sponsorship of studentactivities.

  15. Participates in Curriculum development programs as required.

  16. Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
