Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a 1:1 Special Education ParaEducator at Hayes Intermediate School. This full-time position involves providing personalized support to a student with special needs ensuring they receive the necessary assistance to thrive academically and socially. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping students overcome challenges and foster an inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized support to students with special needs assisting them in academic tasks and daily activities.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to each students unique needs.
- Monitor and document student progress behavior and engagement reporting any concerns to the supervising teacher or special education coordinator.
- Assist students in developing social skills and independence fostering positive peer relationships and self-advocacy.
- Implement instructional strategies and accommodations as directed by the classroom teacher or special education staff.
- Provide support during classroom activities including group work transitions and extracurricular activities.
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment promoting respect and understanding among all students.
- Participate in staff meetings training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.
- Uphold confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions with students families and staff members.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in special education or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with students with special needs in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students families and colleagues.
- Patience empathy and a genuine desire to support the learning and development of students with diverse needs.
- Ability to follow directions work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to changing situations.
- Basic knowledge of special education laws practices and strategies is a plus.
- Proficiency in technology and willingness to learn new tools and software relevant to special education.
- CPR and First Aid certification is preferred or must be obtained within a specified timeframe.
- Background check and clearance as required by state and district policies.
