Urban Designer
Job Summary
This respected employeeowned planning and design consultancy is actively involved in shaping largescale strategic developments including plans for over 150000 new homes across the UK. Working with a broad client base that includes leading master developers bluechip organisations landowners Government bodies and local authorities the studio delivers highquality spatial and placemaking solutions across a diverse range of sites and planning contexts.

Urban Designers are given the opportunity to work across a wide project portfolio avoiding narrow specialisms or being pigeonholed while playing a meaningful role in shaping highquality sustainable places that create longterm value.
Role Overview
The Urban Designer will work closely with experienced masterplanning planning mapping and graphic communications teams contributing designled thinking to complex development and regeneration projects. The role offers a balance of collaboration and autonomy allowing individuals to take ownership of design workstreams contribute creatively to spatial strategies and apply strong analytical and problemsolving skills to deliver welldesigned deliverable outcomes for a wide range of clients. This position would suit an Urban Designer looking to work at the interface of planning design and delivery within a supportive employeeowned environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and contributing to masterplans urban design frameworks and spatial strategies
- Supporting placemaking and largescale development projects from concept through to delivery
- Producing highquality design material including layout drawings diagrams and illustrative content
- Working closely with planners architects landscape architects and engineers to coordinate outputs
- Engaging with clients stakeholders and local authorities to support designled planning outcomes
- Supporting design codes parameter plans and spatial guidance documents
- Mentoring and supporting junior team members where appropriate
Requirements
The practice is looking for Urban Designers with experience in either consultancy or local authority environments with demonstrable and transferable skills particularly within the following areas:
- Masterplanning and urban design for residentialled mixeduse or commercial developments
- Strong understanding of placemaking principles urban form and spatial quality
- Experience supporting planning applications through designled documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Confident producing clear design narratives diagrams and visually strong outputs
- Experience coordinating design inputs to support deliverable development proposals
