About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to train over 2 years to be a Housing Enforcement Officer whilst playing a key role in bringing long term empty properties back into residential use. Making empty properties into homes is a priority to assist in reducing the impact that derelict properties have on local communities whilst increasing the number of houses available for use in the borough. Empty property work includes investigative workproperty inspections legal action administration of grants and completing promotional work. This work will be completed in tandem with your training and completion of work to ensure that you obtain the skills necessary to be a fully competent housing enforcement professional. This role isnt just a job but an opportunity to start a new and exciting career.
About you
This may be the opportunity for you if you have a desire and commitment to develop technical knowledge and understanding in relation to the role of Housing Enforcement officer. To meet the minimum requirements for this trainee role you will have a degree qualification in a relevant legal STEM or humanities subjector a minimum 5 years experience in a relevant field (Police law enforcement Fire Service Building Control Planning Trading Standards or technical housing trades Housing Services). In addition you will have a minimum of two years experience working in a customer facing role. You will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills and be able communicate clearly both verbally and in writing with a wide range of contacts and to deal with difficult or complex issues. If you are not comfortable working in a sometimes confrontational and challenging environment delivering difficult messages this may not be the job for you but if you want a career that is rewarding interesting and varied that is definitely a role in housing enforcement.
