The Opportunity:

The School of Engineering is seeking to appoint an experienced and talented Technical Manager (teaching) to join its skilled Technical Services team of ca.35 post holder works closely with the Technical Services Manager playing a leading role in delivery of a sustainable effective and safe approach to the running of the Schools teaching laboratories.

The School currently has 7 dedicated teaching laboratories across chemical engineering light structures mechanical engineering power engineering and electronics. Additionally there are numerous multi-use spaces which are also used in relation to delivery of taught laboratory classes including research laboratories and workshop spaces. Combined these spaces support learning and teaching through delivery of specialist practical classes to both undergraduate and taught postgraduate students under the management and leadership of the Technical Manager (teaching).

The Technical Manager (teaching) will deliver a safe and efficient working environment across their area of responsibility ensuring compliance with policies and legislation and optimising use of the available resource. They have line management responsibility for 8 (or the) Teaching Technicians and will support them in the successful design and delivery of workshop and laboratory-based teaching. The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent H&S awareness and familiarity with H&S documentation (e.g. risk assessments COSHH).
