About the role
We are looking for a highly commercial tax professional who has demonstrated experience in leading the tax support of multi-jurisdictional projects and transactions including M&A.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is delivery-driven with deep tax technical expertise strong judgement and commercial acumen and a pragmatic mindset. This means being able to operate effectively both in the detail and at a strategic level.
The role does not have any direct reports but will build project teams comprising both local tax team members and advisors. An ability to mobilize co-ordinate and lead project teams will be key.
Reporting to the General Manager Tax Global Advisory you will:
Lead the tax workstream for complex multi-jurisdictional transactions restructures and strategic projects including M&A.
Provide clear commercially grounded tax advice across the full project lifecycle and support timely decision-making by senior stakeholders.
Assess and articulate the tax implications of transaction structures financing arrangements post-deal integration steps and cross-border operating models in a way that is practical and decision-useful.
Mobilise and lead project teams drawn from local tax teams other Group Tax specialists and external advisers ensuring the right expertise is brought in at the right time.
Identify assess and communicate key tax risks arising from projects transactions and business initiatives ensuring these are understood early and managed appropriately.
Ensure advice and recommended approaches are aligned with Rio Tintos tax principles governance requirements and broader policy framework.
Build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders across Tax Finance Legal Business Development and the broader business becoming a go-to adviser on major initiatives and transactions.
Manage external advisers effectively defining scope directing inputs and challenging advice where needed to ensure high-quality timely and commercially relevant support.
Work with external advisers and internal specialists to gather input efficiently challenge assumptions and build robust positions on complex matters.
About you
A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
10 years experience in a professional services firm and/or multinational in-house tax environment including substantial exposure to complex transactions strategic projects and M&A activity.
Deep technical tax expertise strong commercial acumen and a business-partnering mindset with the ability to translate complex cross-border issues into clear practical advice that supports better business decisions.
Demonstrated experience leading tax support for multi-jurisdictional projects and transactions including shaping options identifying and prioritising material tax considerations and supporting decision-making through the full project lifecycle.
Strong business partnering and stakeholder leadership skills with the ability to build trusted relationships influence senior stakeholders and co-ordinate internal specialists regional teams and external advisers to deliver high-quality outcomes.
A pragmatic delivery-focused and risk-based approach with the ability to work at pace manage competing priorities and apply sound judgement on when to escalate where to focus effort and how to work to governance requirements while delivering commercial outcomes in a large matrixed or global organisation.
Experience in the resources mining energy or other capital-intensive multinational sector is desirable.

Our global headquarters is situated in St. Jamess Square in the City of Westminster London on the edge of the West End and is the site of the groups original head office. Located over several floors the office is truly a global hub for the business and is the base for many members of the Executive Committee. As such the grade II listed office reflects the vibrancy of the location although it also overlooks the tranquillity of the only garden square in the district and is a short walk from Green Park and Piccadilly underground stations.
