Job Summary

Somerset Community College is accepting applications for a Staff Instructor III - CDL Program. This position will provide student learning through the delivery of course instruction in CDL training (instruction) for businesses and students through the Career and Technical Education Department.

Job Duties:

Facilitate delivery of CDL training to students from a variety of backgrounds and monitor all student skill progress;
Ensure students comply with all federal and state DOT requirements and ensure program standards continually meet the Federal Training Provider Registry requirements;
Schedule and prepare students for successful CDL driving test;
Work daily with the team to organize classroom range and on-the-road student training activities being mindful of student-to-instructor ratio and individual student learning styles;
Evaluate and assess student completion and learning outcomes;
Present and emphasize safety concepts principles and procedures;
Ensure all trucks are safe clean and well-maintained before each class session;
Participate in student and employer recruitment events as well as student retention activities;
Participate in team planning meetings;
Perform other duties as assigned including but not limited to potential night-time instruction as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree and six years of relevant experience or equivalent;
Active CDL A License;
2 years over-the-road CDL driving experience or other related technical experience;
Must be able to work independently;
Detail-oriented self-motivated ability to work independently and adapt seamlessly to fast-paced dynamic environments;
Skilled in engaging and supporting students from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds;
Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and meet tight deadlines;
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel Forms Outlook Teams SharePoint Word).

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors degree and four to six years of relevant experience or equivalent;
Five years of CDL driving experience or other related technical experience;
CDL Driving instructor experience and/or trainee road supervision;
Proficient in Electronic Logging Devices (ELD);
Experience working at the community college level is preferred.
