Job Summary
3 Month Contract With A Local Authority
Job Purpose
The Solicitor (Corporate & Environmental Law) will provide expert legal advice guidance and representation to internal and external clients across a range of matters with a focus on property planning highways rights of way and major commercial projects. The role supports the delivery of high-quality legal services while ensuring compliance with professional standards and contributing to continuous service improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a personal caseload providing expert legal advice representation and advocacy across corporate and environmental law matters.
- Advise and represent clients in legal proceedings meetings and negotiations as required.
- Provide legal support in areas including property planning highways rights of way and major commercial projects.
- Maintain compliance with professional standards regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures.
- Monitor legal developments and advise on changes that may impact service delivery or the Authority.
- Contribute to the development of legal policies procedures and business improvements.
- Deliver training guidance and professional support to colleagues and clients where appropriate.
- Supervise and support junior officers within Legal Services.
- Build and maintain expertise across allocated legal disciplines.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver high-quality customer-focused legal services.
Requirements
- Qualified Solicitor Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (or equivalent) with a current practising certificate where applicable.
- Experience managing a varied legal caseload ideally within local government or the public sector.
- Strong knowledge of property planning highways rights of way and/or commercial law.
- Excellent drafting negotiation advocacy and advisory skills.
- Ability to interpret legislation and provide practical solution-focused legal advice.
- Strong communication stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative legal team.
- Commitment to continuous professional development and maintaining legal expertise.
