Software Project Manager

Purpose

The Software Project Manager (SPM) is responsible for enabling effective and predictable software delivery across one or more software development teams. Reporting to the Software Delivery Manager the SPM will work closely with Software Developers Product Owners Product Managers and technical leadership to facilitate Scrum practices improve team effectiveness identify and address impediments and maintain transparency around delivery progress risks and dependencies.

The SPM will support teams in planning and coordinating work maintaining an effective delivery cadence and continuously improving delivery processes and practices. They will use appropriate metrics and team insights to identify emerging delivery issues facilitate resolution of blockers and dependencies and ensure relevant stakeholders have an accurate understanding of delivery health.

The SPM is expected to operate independently establish credibility quickly within complex software teams and actively coach and support teams in applying Scrum principles self management collaboration and continuous improvement.

The SPM may be responsible for managing several concurrent software products as instructed by their line manager.

Functions

ESSENTIAL

• Agile facilitation. Facilitate and support effective agile delivery practices including sprint planning daily stand-ups sprint reviews and retrospectives. Ensure that meetings are focused productive and support the team in achieving the Sprint Goal.
• Remove blockers. Identify and help resolve obstacles that prevent the team from progressing effectively. Work with team members stakeholders and other areas of the organization to address dependencies and blockers.
• Promote continuous improvement. Help the team assess its performance and identify opportunities to improve delivery quality collaboration and predictability. Facilitate and action improvement opportunities arising from retrospectives and encourage measurable improvements over time.
• Coach the scrum team. Coach team members in Scrum principles self-management and continuous improvement. Encourage collaboration accountability transparency and effective ways of working.
• Track and communicate delivery health. Use appropriate metrics to improve transparency around progress risks dependencies and delivery performance.

• Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring coaching collaborating and team building
• Strong analytical planning and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands
• Solid understanding of and demonstrated experience in using Agile Project Management tools such as Jira/Confluence Smartsheets Balsamiq all Office Tools
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Experience interacting with both business and IT individuals at all levels including the executive level
• Creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the big picture view

REQUIRED

• Extensive experience in software development preferably as a Software Developer role
• Considerable experience in Oil & Gas Industry
• Experience in successfully delivering software products using Scrum in complex development environments
• Expert knowledge of Scrum Agile delivery practices and software development life cycle models
• Demonstrable experience as a Scrum Master or in software project or delivery management supporting large complex products involving cross-functional teams in a high-tech development environment
• Strong technical background with the ability to objectively assess complex project risks dependencies technical issues and delivery impacts

• Experience overseeing multi-function project teams including Developers and QA Personnel

DESIRED

• Computing Science University degree or equivalent education
• Project Management Certification is a plus
• Sufficient level of technical background to be able to accurately and objectively evaluate complex project risks and issues
