Social Worker – Learning Disabilities
Job Summary
Our client based in Walsall is seeking an experienced Social Worker to join their Learning Disabilities Team. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated practitioner to support adults with learning disabilities and their carers through strengths-based person-centred social work interventions that promote independence wellbeing choice and inclusion within the community.
Working within Adult Social Care you will undertake Care Act assessments care and support planning reviews safeguarding enquiries and Mental Capacity Assessments. The successful candidate will work closely with individuals families carers health professionals and partner agencies to develop effective support arrangements and achieve positive outcomes for adults with learning disabilities. The role requires a practitioner who can manage a varied caseload work autonomously and apply professional judgement within a legislative framework.
Key Responsibilities
Core duties include:
- Undertaking strengths-based Care Act 2014 assessments for adults with learning disabilities and complex care and support needs.
- Developing co-producing and reviewing person-centred Care and Support Plans that promote independence self-determination and community inclusion.
- Managing a varied caseload of adults with learning disabilities ensuring assessments interventions and reviews are completed within agreed timescales.
- Undertaking Mental Capacity Assessments and contributing to Best Interest decision-making processes where required.
- Leading and contributing to safeguarding enquiries ensuring adults are protected from abuse neglect and exploitation.
- Identifying assessing and managing risk whilst promoting positive risk-taking and individual choice.
- Working collaboratively with families carers advocacy services health professionals housing providers and other partner agencies.
- Supporting adults to access community resources services and opportunities that enhance wellbeing and independence.
- Advocating for adults with care and support needs ensuring their voices are heard and their wishes and outcomes remain central to decision-making.
- Maintaining accurate and timely case records assessments reports and support plans in accordance with statutory and organisational requirements.
- Supporting newly qualified social workers students and colleagues through shared learning and professional practice development.
Qualifications & Experience
- Professional Qualification:MA BA BSc in Social Work Diploma in Social Work CQSW or equivalent recognised Social Work qualification.
- Registration:Must be registered withSocial Work England (SWE).
- Experience:Minimum of 2 years post-qualified experience working within Adult Social Care.
- Learning Disabilities Experience:Previous experience supporting adults with learning disabilities is highly desirable.
- Legislation Knowledge:Strong understanding of theCare Act 2014Mental Capacity Act 2005 Adult Safeguarding legislation and relevant statutory guidance.
- Assessment Skills:Proven ability to undertake strengths-based assessments reviews safeguarding enquiries and care and support planning.
- Multi-Agency Working:Experience working collaboratively with professionals across health social care and partner organisations.
- Communication Skills:Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to produce high-quality reports and assessments.
- Professional Practice:Commitment to anti-discriminatory anti-oppressive and person-centred practice aligned with Social Work England Professional Standards.
- Driving Licence:Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable.
