SO1 Modelling & Simulation Lead

Subject to formal establishment a vacancy will arise for a OF4 to serve as SO1 Modelling & Simulation Lead at IWC/CSOC/Shrivenham on FTRS Limited Commitment Terms and Conditions of Service (TCoS) with an initial proposed start date of 01 Oct 2026.

Unit Function

The role of the Integrated Warfare Centre (IWC) is to optimise and adapt the current integrated force through concepts and warfare development to support UK and NATO joint commanders to achieve operational advantage over adversaries across the continuum of competition. The role of the Defence Modelling and Simulation Centre (DMSC)To provide consistent enduring accessible agile and adaptable Modelling & Simulation (M&S) solutions.

Position Role

Senior uniformed interface and principal military interface between DMSC and Defence ensuring that modelling and simulation activity is aligned to operational need translated into actionable outputs and effectively exploited across Defence and partner communities.

Responsibilities

1. Act as the primary uniformed point of contact between DMSC and Front-Line Commands/Domains capability programmes and operational stakeholders.

2. Build and maintain relationships across Defence NATO industry academia and OGDs linking stakeholder engagement and delivery outcomes

3. Represent DMSC at military engagements ensuring M&S is understood and positioned effectively

4. Support integration of UK Defence M&S activity with NATO and allied partners ensuring interoperability and alignment with coalition approaches.

5. Translate military problems capability gaps and operational requirements into clearly defined M&S use cases.

6. Identify where M&S can proactively provide value across Defence understanding the military implications and requirements.

7. Align DMSC activity with Defence priorities strategies and emerging trends/requirements.

8. Provide military insight to inform DMSC prioritisation and programme direction and military judgement to support prioritisation of DMSC activity.
