Senior Structural Technician

Job Summary
The Senior Structural Technician will be responsible for producing coordinating and supervising high-quality structural drawings and BIM models across a range of new-build and refurbishment projects. Working closely with structural engineers architects contractors and other multidisciplinary team members the role will support projects from initial briefing and concept through to detailed technical design and construction.
The successful candidate will bring strong structural detailing experience across steelwork reinforced concrete masonry and timber with a thorough understanding of RIBA project stages BIM coordination and construction-stage support.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams including internal and external stakeholders to develop structural designs for substructures and superstructures that meet client and project requirements.
- Produce supervise and coordinate 3D BIM models and 2D technical drawings using Revit and AutoCAD.
- Interpret structural engineers marked-up sketches and translate them into accurate detailed technical drawings and coordinated BIM models.
- Produce structural sketches and detailed drawings appropriate to RIBA project stages from briefing and concept through to technical detailed design.
- Prepare preliminary structural drawings and information suitable for outline cost estimates and early-stage project development.
- Provide construction-stage technical support including responding to RFIs and TQs.
- Review reinforced concrete details and schedules as well as steel fabricators drawings ensuring accuracy and coordination with the wider design.
- Undertake site visits to investigate and resolve emerging structural issues during construction.
- Coordinate structural information with architects engineers contractors and other disciplines to identify and resolve design clashes and technical issues.
- Support the delivery of projects within agreed timescales budgets and quality standards.
- Maintain a high standard of accuracy and technical quality across all drawings models and project documentation.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of drawing modelling and project delivery processes.
- HND/HNC in Civil Engineering Structural Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
- Minimum 5 years structural detailing experience gained within an engineering design consultancy.
- Proven experience working on both new-build and refurbishment projects.
- Strong structural detailing experience across structural steelwork reinforced concrete masonry and timber.
- Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD with the ability to produce detailed technical models and drawings from structural engineers marked-up sketches.
- Strong computer literacy with excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good understanding and practical experience of RIBA staged project delivery.
- Experience working to project programmes and maintaining agreed budgets.
- Experience providing technical support during the construction stage including responding to RFIs and TQs.
- Ability to review and coordinate reinforced concrete details schedules and steel fabricators drawings.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to technical drawing and BIM coordination.
