Senior Scientist, In Vivo Neuroscience
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced in vivo neuroscientist to play a leading role in the design and execution of our preclinical neuroscience programme.
You will co-lead our in vivo strategy and take responsibility for the regulatory framework supporting our animal studies including acting as holder of the relevant Home Office project licence. This will be a highly influential scientific role with direct responsibility for the quality interpretation and progression of our in vivo work.
You will design execute and analyse studies spanning rodent disease models electrophysiology behavioural neuroscience and dose-ranging efficacy work and will present the resulting data to inform programme-level decisions.
Initial studies will focus on epilepsy with the scope to expand into additional disease models as the programme develops. You will establish and refine the experimental systems required to evaluate our therapeutic approach including disease models recording paradigms and analytical workflows.
Our animal studies are conducted at an off-site vivarium in London. You will work closely with other members of the in vivo team to ensure that in vivo experiments are rigorous reproducible and aligned with the broader translational strategy.
This role would suit a scientist who combines deep technical expertise with strong experimental judgement: someone comfortable taking ownership of complex in vivo studies troubleshooting challenging models and making clear recommendations based on the resulting data.
- Lead our in vivo campaign and hold our Home Office project licence (PPL)
- Establish our animal work at the vivarium including the disease models and the recording setup
- Run the electrophysiology and behavioural studies
- Design and deliver dose-ranging efficacy studies
- Interpret the resulting data and help shape the direction of the programme
You may be a good fit if you:
- Hold a PhD in neuroscience or a relevant scientific discipline with 3 years of postdoctoral or industry research experience. Experience in an industrial setting is preferred
- Hold a current UK Home Office personal licence (PIL A/B/C)
- Have personally performed surgery electrophysiology recordings and analysis within the last two years
- Have worked with rodent epilepsy models
- Do in vivo electrophysiology including chronic EEG or LFP and silicon-probe or Neuropixels recording
- Are fluent in stereotaxic technique intravenous dosing and perfusion
Strong candidates may also have experience with:
- Drafting or holding a Home Office project licence (PPL)
- Intracerebral administration or other routes of local delivery to the central nervous system (CNS)
- In vivo chemogenetics including actuator pharmacology and dose-response work
- Culturing primary neurons and running neuronal assays
- Designing and interpreting rodent behavioural studies
- Calcium imaging in vivo such as fibre photometry or miniscope recording
