Senior Science Laboratory Technician – Secondary Academy in Bristol (ASAP Start)

A modern well-equipped secondary academy in Bristol is seeking a practical safety-conscious Science Technician to provide vital laboratory and preparation support to its thriving Science faculty for an immediate (ASAP) start.

Role Purpose

Working directly under the Head of Science and Lead Technician you will ensure the smooth safe and efficient day-to-day operation of school laboratory spaces. You will prepare scientific materials practical equipment and chemical solutions across Biology Chemistry and Physics to support high-quality classroom learning and practical assessments across Key Stages 3 4 and 5.

Core Responsibilities

• Prepare assemble and set up apparatus chemical solutions and equipment for daily practical lessons and required GCSE/A-Level practical assessments

• Maintain clean and store laboratory equipment glassware and scientific instruments safely after use

• Monitor chemical stock levels manage hazardous substance inventories and dispose of chemical/biological waste strictly in line with COSHH and CLEAPSS guidelines

• Perform routine safety checks on laboratory equipment fume cupboards eye-wash stations and first-aid kits

• Assist teaching staff during practical laboratory sessions with technical demonstrations and troubleshooting

• Maintain accurate safety logs chemical hazard databases and equipment maintenance schedules

Offer & Working Conditions

• Salary:pro-rata (Term-Time Only 12 weeks)

• Contract: Full-time (37 hours per week) long-term or permanent post starting ASAP

• Environment: Modern purpose-built laboratory suites and dedicated technician preparation rooms

• Location: Prime Bristol location with excellent public transport access and staff parking

Candidate Profile

• Background or qualification in Science (A-Level Higher National Diploma or BSc in Chemistry Biology Physics or related field)

• Previous laboratory technician experience within an educational (secondary/higher) or commercial laboratory setting

• Strong working knowledge of CLEAPSS safety standards COSHH guidelines and chemical handling protocols

• Methodical organization skills high attention to detail and ability to meet morning practical deadlines

• Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
