We are seeking two experienced Senior Mechanical Project Engineers to join the Technical Office team on the Thames Water Coppermills Resilience Project.

Supporting the Mechanical Construction Manager you will play a key role in the delivery of major mechanical work packages from detailed design through procurement construction commissioning and handover. Working closely with designers suppliers subcontractors procurement teams and site delivery personnel you will ensure that mechanical installations are delivered safely efficiently and in line with project objectives.

This role will focus on large-diameter metallic pipework systems and major process equipment including pumps surge vessels pressure vessels valves and associated mechanical infrastructure. It offers an excellent opportunity to take ownership of critical packages on one of Thames Waters flagship resilience projects.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

As a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer you will:

  • Support the delivery of mechanical work packages throughout design procurement construction commissioning and handover phases.
  • Manage day-to-day engineering and coordination activities for major mechanical installations.
  • Review drawings specifications scopes of work and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) to ensure alignment with project requirements.
  • Develop review and maintain mechanical work packages technical documentation and scopes of work.
  • Manage technical queries design clarifications engineering changes and interface coordination.
  • Coordinate activities between engineering procurement subcontractors suppliers and construction teams.
  • Support mechanical completion testing commissioning and asset handover activities.
  • Assist with tender evaluations subcontractor appointments and supplier management.
  • Review subcontractor methodologies programmes and resource plans to ensure successful delivery.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance and support the resolution of technical commercial and delivery challenges.
  • Review construction methodologies and RAMS providing practical constructability input.
  • Monitor progress against programme milestones and support project controls reporting forecasting and risk management activities.
  • Participate in technical workshops coordination meetings and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Support safe working practices quality standards and continuous improvement across the project.

Required Skills and Competencies

Essential Requirements

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent engineering qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience delivering mechanical works on major infrastructure water utilities industrial or energy projects.
  • Experience managing mechanical subcontractors through procurement construction and delivery phases.
  • Strong technical knowledge of large-diameter metallic piping systems.
  • Practical experience installing pumps valves surge vessels pressure vessels and associated mechanical process equipment.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing Scopes of Work (SOW) Bills of Quantities (BOQ) technical specifications and tender documentation.
  • Ability to develop and manage mechanical work packages and technical documentation.
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings specifications and construction methodologies.
  • Knowledge of construction planning progress monitoring and project reporting processes.
  • Understanding of change management risk management and contract administration principles.
  • Strong communication organisational and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Experience working on Thames Water or other UK water utility projects.
  • Experience supporting mechanical completion testing commissioning and handover activities.
  • Knowledge of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015).
  • Experience working under NEC contracts including compensation events and change management processes.
  • SMSTS qualification.
  • EUSR National Water Hygiene Card.
  • Thames Water Safety Passport.
  • Relevant CSCS Card.
  • Temporary Works Supervisor (TWS) or Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC) qualification.
  • Confined Space Awareness or Entry Training.
