About the team youll be part of

The Online Safety Groups purpose is to ensure UK citizens have a safer life online by implementing and overseeing the requirements under the Online Safety Act 2023. The Group is responsible for delivering online safety policy supervising online services and building technical expertise to meet the regimes aims.

This role is within the Online Safety Group and whilst sits in the Policy Development team may be deployed across a range of priority areas including policy delivery compliance initiatives implementation and other cross-cutting projects. We operate a flexible resourcing model giving colleagues the opportunity to apply their project management skills across different areas of the Group as priorities evolve.

Our teams works closely with cross functional colleagues from other teams in the organisation to use their skills and experience to develop robust policy. These include legal experts technologists economists and research specialists amongst others.

The purpose and scope of the role

This Project Manager will on a day-to-day basis work closely with the relevant Principal Director and wider project leadership team responsible for a priority area of work. This may include policy projects compliance initiatives implementation activity supervision-related work or other cross-functional programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management of projects including planning structuring delivery and co-ordination of ambitious work across these areas.

You will need to intelligently harness individual strengths and support the co-ordination of a diverse set of colleagues from within the project team and other cross functional areas facilitating cross team working encouraging practical delivery schedules unblocking issues and reporting an honest assessment of progress.

As the Project Manager youll play a pivotal role in ensuring our work is delivered to a high standard in an efficient and timely manner wherever you are doing this role effectively you will need to manage risks and issues plan resources effectively adapt to changing priorities and manage internal and external stakeholders as needed.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management delivery and development of online safety projects and priority initiatives

  • Provide proactive support to the project team in coordination and delivery of milestones ensuring standards and deadlines are met.

  • Facilitate and assist detailed planning for all workstreams creating realistic resourcing plans and identifying critical dependencies.

  • Make honest assessments of progress and identify where intervention is needed.

  • Challenge workstreams to find opportunities to accelerate progress deliver early benefits and mitigate risks.

  • Lead regular check-ins with workstreams to surface and resolve key issues/ blockers and creating a sense of urgency clarity and common cause.

  • Create a safe environment for colleagues to call out if they arent getting what they need to progress and ensure teams understand the plan and the impact if their activity slips.

  • Clearly identify and track milestones reported to key stakeholders and Senior Management managing issues and risks as they occur including escalating when appropriate.

  • Ensures team understand their role tasks and the outputs required including governance steps monitoring their progress and holding them to account on delivery.

  • Overseeing the work of junior policy colleagues on their workstream/project/programme area taking account of their development needs and providing appropriate support and feedback.

  • Coordinating and ensuring the effective provision of project management support to the project team.

  • Work effectively and collaboratively with all teams and other cross-functional colleagues flexing across different areas as priorities and resourcing needs evolve.

The skills knowledge and experience youll need for success

Technical knowledge and experience

  • Previous project management experience within a regulatory compliance policy public sector or similarly complex environment including planning and coordinating projects managing risks and dependencies engaging stakeholders preparing project documentation and supporting effective governance and decision-making.

  • A practical understanding of project management tools and methodologies.

  • Proficiencyin MS Word ExcelPowerPointand other Microsoft 365 products.
