The successful candidate will be an experienced systems administrator with strong cyber security expertise operating at a senior level and taking lead responsibility for secure configuration monitoring improvement and incident response across the Councils IT estate.
You will work closely with Technology & Information management acting as a subjectmatter expert for cyber security infrastructure hardening and enterprise systems.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Act as lead technical engineer for cyber security operations ensuring the confidentiality integrity and availability of Council systems
Design implement secure and maintain enterprise IT infrastructure ensuring compliance with PSN requirements Scottish Government cyber resilience guidance and relevant legislation
Administer and harden key infrastructure services including servers (physical and virtual) storage backups networks (LAN/WAN/WiFi) and data centre platforms
Lead on the deployment configuration and ongoing management of cyber security controls including firewalls endpoint protection secure network design and web filtering
Provide senior administration and security oversight of Microsoft enterprise technologies including Active Directory DNS DHCP PKI and authentication services
Conduct risk assessments approve infrastructure changes and contribute to effective change incident and problem management including cyber incident response
Develop maintain and enforce security standards technical policies and operational procedures
Contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning ensuring cyber risks are considered and mitigated
Lead or support cyber and infrastructure projects ensuring delivery to agreed timescales budgets and quality standards
Provide mentoring technical leadership and specialist guidance to colleagues and deputise for the Team Leader when required
Essential Requirements
Degreelevel qualification or equivalent relevant experience
Significant experience as a systems administrator or infrastructure engineer in a mediumtolarge enterprise environment
Strong demonstrable experience of cyber security within infrastructure operations including secure configuration and risk management
Extensive experience with Windowsbased enterprise environments including Active Directory and core network services
Proven ability to work independently manage competing priorities and provide clear technical advice to a wide range of stakeholders
Desirable
Knowledge of publicsector cyber security standards including PSN Cyber Essentials and data protection legislation
Experience of cloud or hybrid infrastructure environments and security considerations
Experience supporting or leading cyber incident response or resilience improvement initiatives
Understanding of local authority or wider publicsector ICT environments
Microsoft and/or cybersecurity certifications (e.g. CompTIA Security Microsoft Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate MCSE CISSP/CISM etc.
