In this full-time role you will work closely with secondary students who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) ADHD Speech and Language difficulties and Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. You will provide essential 1:1 and small-group support to help pupils access the curriculum and build social confidence.
Candidate Requirements
Experience & Background: Prior experience supporting children or young people with SEN within an educational youth work or care setting.
Educational Foundation: Strong literacy and numeracy skills (Five GCSEs grade 4/C or above including English and Maths) to effectively support core subjects across key stages.
Communication & Empathy: Excellent interpersonal skills patience and the ability to build trusting constructive relationships with young people facing barriers to learning.
Adaptability: Familiarity with positive behaviour support de-escalation strategies or communication tools (e.g. visual schedules) is highly advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
Provide targeted 1:1 and small-group support inside and outside the classroom to ensure students engage with lesson activities.
Assist subject teachers in differentiating class resources and adapting tasks to align with students Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Help learners develop emotional regulation strategies social interaction skills and classroom independence.
Maintain clear records of pupil engagement and progress sharing updates regularly with the SENCO and class teachers.
