The Role

An ambitious Secondary School in Walsall is seeking a professional methodical and safety-conscious Science Laboratory Technician to join their highly successful Science Faculty. This role is an excellent opportunity for a science graduate or a seasoned technician who wants to play an essential operational role behind the scenes directly enabling the delivery of high-quality practical experiments across Biology Chemistry and Physics.

The successful candidate will provide day-to-day technical and logistical support across multiple science laboratories. Responsibilities include preparing chemical solutions assembling specialized physics apparatus and organizing biological materials required for Key Stage 3 GCSE and A-Level practical exam modules. You will manage the departments equipment inventories implement rigorous health and safety safety checks dispose of chemical waste materials in accordance with COSHH regulations and maintain the cleanliness and structure of the preparation rooms.

You will support seamless communication with the teaching staff and the Head of Faculty ensuring that all practical resource requests are logged and fulfilled accurately ahead of scheduled lessons. Exceptional time-management and organizational skills are crucial as you will balance the quick turnaround of practical materials between lessons while monitoring safety compliance logs and asset registers.

The school is looking for a proactive reliable individual with deep technical literacy regarding scientific apparatus and chemical storage handling. Complete confidence in technical logging software a methodical eye for detail and a collaborative approach are vital to succeeding within this fast-paced high-tech support environment.

Requirements
  • A degree or relevant technical qualification in a scientific discipline (Biology Chemistry Physics or Applied Science) is highly desirable

  • Proven experience working within a laboratory environment preferably in an educational setting

  • Strong understanding of school health and safety legislation including COSHH frameworks

  • Good IT and data management capabilities to track laboratory inventory logs

  • Ability to work effectively and independently within a busy structured department
