Salary: 120 160 per day (dependent on experience) /per annum equivalent

Wayman Education is currently seeking a dedicated and proactive School Safeguarding Officer to join a supportive secondary school community in Reading.
In this vital pastoral role you will work alongside the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Senior Leadership Team and external agencies to ensure the highest standards of child protection and student welfare across the school. You will act as a key point of contact for day-to-day safeguarding concerns driving early help interventions and fostering a safe nurturing environment where every pupil can succeed.
Case Management: Receive triage and accurately record all daily safeguarding and child protection concerns using CPOMS.
Multi-Agency Liaison: Partner with local authority childrens services health teams and early help providers attending child protection conferences core group panels and TAC (Team Around the Child) meetings.
Early Help Interventions: Conduct early help assessments design tailored support plans for vulnerable students and evaluate ongoing intervention outcomes.
Pastoral Guidance: Provide confidential support guidance and active listening to pupils and families experiencing personal social or attendance difficulties.
Statutory Compliance: Maintain all child protection documentation and records in strict compliance with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) guidelines.
Experience: Proven experience working in a school safeguarding pastoral or child protection capacity within a UK educational setting.
Statutory Knowledge: Up-to-date comprehensive understanding of KCSIE regulations early help frameworks and multi-agency referral processes.
Technical Proficiency: Practical working experience with CPOMS (or equivalent school safeguarding software).
Key Skills: Strong interpersonal active listening and conflict-resolution abilities with the empathy and discretion required for handling sensitive cases.
Vetting: An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to complete a new application).
