Job Summary

CORE PURPOSE

We require a proactive highly reliable and technically adept School Caretaker to deliver outstanding site support maintenance and security operations across our campus. Operating within a vibrant rapidly improving and oversubscribed community academy the successful candidate will ensure a safe clean fully functional and welcoming environment for all pupils staff and visitors taking personal pride in the physical upkeep and smooth daily operation of our school buildings and grounds.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
  • Site Security & Keyholding: Execute daily opening and closing routines for the entire school campus ensuring all buildings are secure alarms are activated or deactivated and windows and gates are locked acting as a primary keyholder for scheduled out-of-hours emergencies.

  • Reactive Repairs & Minor Maintenance: Carry out a wide range of first-line maintenance tasks including minor carpentry plumbing repairs redecoration furniture assembly and regular lighting checks to ensure teaching spaces remain fully operational.

  • Statutory Compliance Support: Conduct and log routine health and safety checks including weekly fire alarm testing water temperature monitoring for legionella control visual playground safety checks and regular inspection of emergency escape routes.

  • Grounds & Porterage Duties: Maintain clean litter-free external grounds and waste disposal zones. Handle internal porterage requests including setting up exam halls moving deliveries and preparing specific rooms for community events or parents evenings.

  • Contractor Liaison & Safety Supervision: Greet monitor and assist external service engineers and building contractors on-site ensuring all school safeguarding protocols visitor logging and safe working practices are strictly followed.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience: A proven track record of successful caretaking site maintenance or trade-based handyperson experience ideally within an educational public sector or high-footfall commercial environment.

  • Technical Practicality: Strong practical skills across basic building trades (such as plumbing carpentry or painting) with the physical capacity to handle manual lifting working at heights and outdoor seasonal tasks safely.

  • Reliable & Community-Focused Ethos: Exceptional reliability punctuality and a supportive interpersonal manner displaying a clear commitment to working constructively within a diverse energetic school community.
