About the School:

We are seeking to appoint a reliable practical and hardworking School Caretaker on behalf of a welcoming primary school in Darlington. The school pride itself on maintaining a safe clean and warm learning environment for its pupils and staff. Joining a dedicated site team you will play an essential role in the daily operations safety and security of the entire school estate.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as a primary keyholder managing the secure opening and closing of the school buildings and grounds.

• Carry out routine building maintenance minor plumbing joinery tasks and DIY repairs across the site.

• Monitor operate and log checks on the school heating lighting and security systems.

• Oversee health and safety compliance including regular fire alarm testing water hygiene checks and clear emergency egress.

• Manage external contractors on-site and assist with cleaning duties litter picking gritting in winter and heavy lifting/moving of furniture.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in caretaking site management facilities or a skilled trade (plumbing carpentry electrical or general building maintenance).

• Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and COSHH guidelines.

• Ability to work independently use initiative and manage a varied daily workload.

• Excellent interpersonal skills with a polite and helpful manner when interacting with school staff visitors and contractors.
