We are recruiting Residential Support Workers to join a supportive and growing residential care team providing a safe stable and nurturing home for children and young people.
This is a rewarding hands-on role where no two days will be exactly the same. Youll build trusted relationships with young people support their emotional and personal development and help them gain the confidence and practical skills they need for greater independence.
As a Residential Support Worker you will:
- Provide day-to-day care supervision and emotional support to children and young people.
- Build positive trusting relationships and act as a strong role model.
- Support young people with emotional regulation and challenging behaviour in a calm and appropriate way.
- Help with daily routines including meals activities personal care and household tasks.
- Encourage education training and participation in recreational and community activities.
- Help young people develop practical life skills including cooking budgeting communication and independence.
- Support attendance at school appointments family contact and activities.
- Maintain accurate daily records logs and incident reports.
- Follow safeguarding child protection and company procedures at all times.
- Work closely with colleagues social workers schools and other professionals.
- Help maintain a safe welcoming and homely environment.
The home operates a structured rota designed to provide young people with continuity and consistency of care.
The typical pattern is 2 days on / 3 days off forming part of a 48-hour block arrangement.
A standard working block includes:
- Day 1: 10:00am 11:00pm
- Night 1: Sleep-in
- Day 2: 10:00am 11:00pm
- Night 2: Sleep-in with designated alert responsibility
- Shift finishes on the morning of Day 3
Sleep-ins are not waking night shifts. Staff are expected to rest with intervention only when required to support a young person or respond to a safeguarding concern.
The rota will include weekends and bank holidays.
Were looking for people who are compassionate resilient reliable and able to remain calm when situations become challenging.
You will need:
- Experience working with children young people or vulnerable individuals.
- A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- The ability to build positive relationships with young people.
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour calmly and appropriately.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Good record-keeping skills and the ability to follow procedures.
- Flexibility to work shifts evenings weekends and sleep-ins.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to drive young people to school appointments and activities as part of the role.
It would be beneficial if you have:
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or willingness to work towards it.
- Previous experience within a residential childrens home.
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and attachment-based approaches.
- Experience supporting children with emotional or behavioural needs.
- Experience helping young people access education training or activities.
