The Role

We supervise barristers chambers BSB entities andorganisations that providepostgraduateBartraining and pupillage.

The work we dois designed to:

• protect and promote the public interest and the interests of consumers;

• proactivelyidentifyrisks and takeappropriate actionto prevent them from

• materialising;

• encourage more effective risk management by those we regulate and improvements in the level and consistency of compliance with our regulatory requirements;

• target our resources at those organisations individuals or areas that present the highest risk to ourregulatoryobjectives;and

• evaluate the effectiveness of our regulatory policy.

Weadopt a risk-based approach in line with our Risk Framework.

An important part of thework that we do is proactive such as gathering information to support ourassessment of risk conducting sample checks of compliance with ourregulationsandconducting thematic reviews on areas of focus in our part of our work playsan important rolein enabling the BSB to foster a constructive relationship with those we regulateand other stakeholders to achieveappropriate outcomes resulting in less enforcement action and better protection and promotion of consumers interests.

Other work that we do is reactive responding to reports to the BSB fromstakeholders including barristers pupils members of the publicandother regulatorsabout concerns they also work closely with colleagues across the BSB on areas of regulatory policy development. The work is varied andinteresting andinvolves engaging with a wide range of people and organisations. The team is collaborative and supportive whether working from the office or at home.

You willbe requiredto communicate confidently and professionally with a range of external stakeholders as well as with colleagues across the BSB.

TheBar Standards Board(BSB) regulates barristers and their professional practice and specialised legal services businesses in England and Wales in the public interest.
