Job Summary

Our Building Services team are seeking a Regional Director to join the Building Engineering team based in our South East region to help lead teams & support with the design of a number of UK & Overseas transportation projects.

About the role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic self-motivated person who has excellent written and verbal communication skills particularly with clients. An individual who is passionate about making a difference in the mechanical or electrical field of building services to improve the quality of delivery bring ideas to the office and manage the co-ordination of designs with other disciplines. We are specifically looking to appoint a person who has knowledge and experience in rail and is familiar with clients and Architects in this industry to deliver major UK European & Worldwide projects.

As part of the AECOM MEP team delivering rail focussed work you will have the opportunity to work on some of the most exciting and prestigious projects in the world.  Some of AECOMs recent projects in the region include Crossrail Stations (Farringdon and Paddington) London Victoria Station and Liverpool Street Station - which achieved planning in 2026.

Job Responsibilities:

  • To actively participate in the development of the team and grow AECOMs market share in the local market and support projects further afield.
  • To act as a discipline team leader for rail projects from feasibility through to operational phase for Building Services.
  • To manage a team/ office of engineers specialists and coordinate and support the management team and upskill our engineers in the rail sector.
  • Ensure financial targets and internal KPIs are meet including motivating others to contribute.
  • To prepare and present designs reports and specifications.
  • To manage the design and construction stage activities with both external and internal teams.
  • Contribute to the update of AECOM standards.
  • Be competent to deliver review & approve mechanical engineering calculations (IES/ Hevacomp).
  • To negotiate additional fees and change control.
  • To act as the main point of contact with design teams.
  • To act as project manager for the AECOM/Client contract managing fee expenditure and program.
  • To act as a mentor to junior staff promoting CPD activities.
  • To manage & build client and architect relationships with the aim to get new & repeat work
  • To maintain and enhance expertise within the team and as an individual.
  • To support and lead our 3D and BIM capabilities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Knowledge and experience of the rail market.
  • A highly motivated individual with excellent technical understanding of mechanical and electrical building services for the rail market along with a good overview of the other disciplines in building services
  • Significant track record of leading their discipline design teams.
  • Experience in project management within a defined fee budgets and programs.
  • Ability to speak fluently and communicate effectively in written reports and oral presentations.
  • An experienced Mechanical /Electrical/Building Services Engineer presently holding a senior position
  • Relevant experience in Mechanical/Electrical l Engineering design including areas such as specification writing calculations and developing designs from first principles including air & pipe system distribution Control Systems energy calculations and a conversant with UK codes and practices and ideally experience of overseas codes and practices.
  • Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.
  • Able to make decisions act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.
  • Experience working with any of the various Rail Organisations that operate in the South-East region (i.e. Network Rail HS2 TfL Platform 4 Places for London etc)
  • Detailed knowledge of the technical standards  requirements and consents procedures of Network Rail HS2 Platform 4 Places for London Transport for London (TfL) and London Underground (LUL)
  • Working knowledge of the design of Mechanical Electrical and Public health systems in rail stations. (Added advantage will be working knowledge of Telecoms and Fire systems).
  • Some experience of leading MEP building services delivery in the Rail environment during the D&B Construction stage.

 


Qualifications :

Degree educated in electrical or building services engineering or related discipline ideally Chartered or at least with qualifications leading to this

Qualified Network Rail CEM or CRE is also preferable but not essential
