Job Summary

CORE PURPOSE

We are seeking a thoughtful engaging Religious Education (RE) Teacher to deliver inspiring Philosophy Ethics and World Religions lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with potential Key Stage 5 opportunities). Working closely with the Head of Humanities the successful candidate will foster open dialogue critical thinking and mutual respect while driving strong academic progress across a broad and balanced RE curriculum.

The RE and Humanities department functions as an energetic collaborative hub where staff use modern digital resources debates and primary source materials to help students explore complex ethical philosophical and theological questions in a supportive environment.

KEY TASKS & DAILY OPERATIONS
  • Curriculum Delivery & Planning: Design and deliver high-quality RE schemes of work across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 covering world religions ethical frameworks and philosophical inquiry.

  • Exam Preparation & GCSE Support: Prepare students for GCSE Religious Studies examinations guiding coursework refining essay-writing techniques and providing targeted interventions.

  • Discussion & Debate Leadership: Facilitate respectful structured classroom debates on contemporary ethical issues encouraging pupils to articulate reasoned arguments and consider diverse perspectives.

  • Assessment & Progress Tracking: Systematically assess and evaluate pupil progress through formative marking and summative assessments providing constructive feedback to accelerate learning.

  • Pastoral & Departmental Support: Act as a dedicated form tutor supporting pupil well-being and contributing to whole-school assemblies interfaith events and educational visits.

PROFILE REQUIREMENTS
  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS with a relevant degree in Religious Studies Theology Philosophy Humanities or a related discipline. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced educators are equally encouraged to apply.

  • Experience: Proven experience teaching Religious Education / Religious Studies at secondary level (KS3/KS4) within a UK mainstream school.

  • Skills: Deep subject knowledge across major world faiths and ethical systems excellent classroom management and the ability to inspire critical open-minded inquiry.
