Job Description

As aFood SafetySpecialist(ScientistII)within our Microbiology Divisionyoullbe working in our R&D Team on the development offood safetyproducts and workflows.Youllworkin accordance withstandard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidance bysenior team members/R&D Manager to ensure work is carried out within schedule.

Responsibilities:

As a member of theFood Safetydevelopment team you willbecontributingto and leadingaspects ofFood Safetydevelopment projects including:

  • Collaborativelyplanningprojects in agreement with internal stakeholders to agreed specifications

  • Compilingnecessary project design control documentation

  • Planningand performingfood safetydevelopment project experimentsin accordance withplan

  • Proactively seeking solutions to mitigate risks that mayimpactproject work/timelines

  • Executingproject workin accordance withagreed schedules and budgets

  • Producing and deliveringprogress reportsin accordance withproject timescale

The role is responsible for completing projectand feasibilityactivities including but not limited to:

  • Leading implementation ofnew technologieswithin the food safety laboratory

  • Planningand conductingcompetitor benchmarking and post-market surveillance studies

  • Writing product IFUs and reviewing technical documentswith an eye for detail.

  • Rapidlyidentifyingrisks and mitigate effectively seeking input from senior team members or manager appropriately

  • Co-ordinatingvalidation (e.g.AOAC-RI PTM) of protocols for molecular products against ISO/USDA-FSIS/FDA-BAM standard methods andassistingremote troubleshooting where

  • Demonstrating the ability to interpret large complex datasets and make technical decisions recognizing where support is

  • Utilizingstrong communicationskills including customer-facing technical writing to present R&D project information to a range of audiences

  • Developinganddemonstratinga clear understanding of the processes involved infood safety workflow development

  • Developinganddemonstratinga clear understanding ofproduct design andsuitability for end users

  • Initiatingideas for new or improved products or processeswith a customer-centric mindset

  • Providingsupport to existing productportfoliothrough understanding of scientific principlesworkflowoptimization and examination of new processes

  • Understandingthe performance metrics safetymetricsand practices fortheteam/department

  • Maintaininglaboratory notebooks to theappropriate standard

  • Providingproduct training to internal and external customersandadvancedtechnicaltraining topeersand technical stakeholders

  • Actively engagingin regular performance and development conversations and actingon feedbackasappropriate

  • Fulfilling the responsibilities of the position as defined in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Health Safety and Environmental policies and associated Codes of Practice and actively promoting Health and Safety awareness

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Microbiology (or another biological science related) degree orsignificantexperiencein microbiology laboratory setting

    • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office softwareis

    • Experience with diversetechniquesand proceduresin microbiology

    • Strongorganizational and communication skills

    • Knowledge offood safety workflows/techniquesispreferred but not essential.
