Job Summary
As a Shift Analyst you will work as part of a shift-based quality control team providing round-the-clock analytical capability in line with site business and HSEQ needs. Carries out routine and non-routine analysis across a wide range of sample types to support Huddersfield production operations.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out routine analysis of final process control experimental and effluent samples using a wide range of analytical techniques whilst ensuring that the data produced meets both business and HSEQ compliance requirements.
- Plan own workload (escalation through Lead Shift Analyst and QC Team Leader) ensuring that sample lead-times are met and foresee communicate and resolve potential priority conflicts as they arise.
- Carry out first line trouble shooting and resolution of analytical problems so that a reliable service is restored as rapidly as possible. Where this is not possible then the issue should be escalated to the next technical level.
- Provide first line analytical support to satellite plant laboratories as required.
- Ensure that supporting standard work is carried out to ensure smooth running of the laboratory e.g. calibration of equipment stores ordering etc.
- Follow laboratory procedures to ensure that work is carried out safely and that satisfactory hygiene/ housekeeping standards are maintained.
- Carry out tanker sampling and analysis (subject to authorisation).
- Under the direction of the Duty Manager perform supporting administrative duties during incident management situations.
Qualifications :
Key competencies
- Operate to/and improve on appropriate Health Safety Environmental and Quality standards.
- Excellent practical skills in a wide variety of analytical laboratory techniques e.g. GC LC auto-titrations
- Good communication and team working competency.

- Advance attention to detail skills.
- Maintain and improve analytical quality in the group and in satellite labs.
- Ability to prioritise work to departmental and site needs.

Required skills and experience
- Practical experience of a wide variety of analytical laboratory techniques.
- Qualification BSc Honours Degree in relevant scientific discipline or appropriate experience.
