This is a fantastic opportunity for a Psychology specialist who wants to join a school with high expectations and a strong commitment to academic achievement.

You will primarily teach Psychology at GCSE and A-Level helping students develop a detailed understanding of psychological theories research methods and key areas of human behaviour. The role will involve preparing students for examinations while also encouraging them to think critically about the evidence and arguments they encounter.

Psychology Teacher - The Role

As Psychology Teacher you will be responsible for:

  • Planning and delivering engaging Psychology lessons

  • Teaching Psychology across KS4 and KS5

  • Preparing students for GCSE and A-Level examinations

  • Developing students knowledge of psychological theories

  • Teaching research methods and psychological investigations

  • Developing students ability to evaluate evidence

  • Encouraging critical thinking and independent analysis

  • Helping students apply theories to appropriate examples

  • Developing examination technique

  • Supporting students with extended written responses

  • Differentiating lessons for different abilities

  • Setting and marking assessments

  • Providing detailed and constructive feedback

  • Monitoring student progress

  • Identifying students who require additional support

  • Maintaining high expectations of behaviour

  • Contributing to departmental planning

  • Sharing resources and effective teaching strategies

  • Supporting revision and intervention programmes

  • Participating in parents evenings

  • Contributing to wider school activities

You will need to be confident teaching students who are working towards demanding examination courses and be able to maintain high expectations while providing appropriate support.

Psychology Teacher - Curriculum

The successful candidate should have strong knowledge of Psychology and be confident teaching the major areas covered at GCSE and/or A-Level.

Research methods will be an important part of the role so you should be comfortable explaining research design data interpretation and the strengths and limitations of different approaches.

Students will also need support developing the ability to construct well-developed arguments. Rather than simply recalling theories or studies they should be encouraged to evaluate evidence and reach justified conclusions.

The successful teacher will therefore need to combine excellent subject knowledge with strong literacy and examination skills.

Psychology Teacher - Teaching and Learning

Psychology lessons should be stimulating and thought-provoking.

The school wants students to question ideas consider alternative explanations and understand how psychological research can be interpreted in different ways.

Psychology Teacher - Experience and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A degree in Psychology or a related subject

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience teaching Psychology at secondary level

  • Experience teaching KS4

  • A-Level Psychology experience

  • Strong understanding of research methods

  • Excellent written and verbal communication

  • Strong classroom management

  • Ability to differentiate effectively

  • Excellent assessment skills

  • Good organisational skills

  • Ability to motivate students

  • Commitment to high academic standards

  • Genuine enthusiasm for Psychology

ECTs with appropriate qualifications and strong subject knowledge will also be considered.
