Job Title : Private Ambulance Crew Scheduled Days

Salary: 29967.94 per annum

Location: York

Hours: Monday to Friday 40 hours per week (plus 1 hour lunch; ad hoc on-call and overtime cover as required)

The Role

The Private Ambulance Crew (Scheduled Days) role is essential for collecting the deceased from places of death or containment and bringing them into company care with total dignity and respect. Blending exemplary customer care with meticulous adherence to procedures this role ensures safe transport operations absolute regulatory compliance and positive brand representation across all frontline interactions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Deceased Collections & Client Care

  • Remove the deceased as instructed from hospitals hospices and some nursing homes ensuring care is conducted with the utmost dignity and respect.
  • Transport the deceased as tasked to coroners crematoria or other specified venues using approved task-appropriate equipment.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service demonstrating empathy and active listening skills when interacting with families care staff and potentially vulnerable customers.
  • Act as a Brand Ambassador for the company ensuring personal presentation and vehicle standards reflect the business in a positive manner.

2. Operational Support & Cross-Functional Flexibility

  • Support other areas of the operation as required by business demand including assisting with mortuary care transfers ashes returning or supporting reactive collection shifts.
  • Maintain a flexible approach to daily duties adapting to operational priorities delegated by management.
  • Assist site teams during seasonal operational surges or resource shortages to ensure continuous high-quality service delivery.

3. Identity Verification Compliance & Digital Body Tracking

  • Conduct rigorous identity verification of the deceased before performing any removal or transfer operation.
  • Maintain 100% compliance with the Body Tracking Application utilising QR codes to record detailed progress at every task stage.
  • Ensure strict adherence to legal requirements at the point of death reporting any compliance variances immediately to the duty phone.
  • Conduct dynamic risk assessments prior to executing tasks to maintain safe and compliant working practices.

4. Mortuary Care & Cremation Preparation

  • Book the deceased into the mortuary following established company processes.
  • Perform encoffining duties attaching appropriate identification as required.
  • Remove jewellery identify medical devices and materials unsuitable for cremation verifying removals both visually and via a metal detector.
  • Facilitate the return of ashes as tasked maintaining accurate tracking records throughout.

5. Fleet Care & Driving Standards

  • Perform pre-journey inspections to ensure company vehicles are roadworthy presentable fully equipped and clean before commencing duties.
  • Log and report vehicle faults or routine maintenance requirements promptly to management.
  • Drive within the law and company guidelines maintaining a courteous driving style that reflects positively on the company.
  • Comply fully with company safety guidelines regarding manual handling lone working and vehicle care.

Candidate Profile

Experience & Qualifications

  • Customer Representation: Proven experience representing a company in a first-line customer-facing capacity.
  • Procedural Compliance: Experience working strictly in accordance with detailed operational guidelines and compliance rules.
  • Driving Licence: Full UK driving licence with experience driving 3.5t vehicles.
  • Physical Fitness: Capability to meet the physical demands of manual handling and deceased care operations.
