At Egis were growing our Environment team and looking for an experienced Principal EIA & Consents to help us deliver some of the UKs most exciting and complex infrastructure projects.

From energy and water to transportation and transmission & distribution (T&D) youll play a key role in helping clients navigate environmental assessment planning and consenting challenges ensuring projects are designed and delivered responsibly sustainably and successfully.

This is an opportunity to work at the heart of major infrastructure programmes collaborating with experts across multiple disciplines and engaging with clients regulators stakeholders and communities. Youll bring your technical expertise commercial awareness and understanding of the consenting landscape to projects where your advice can make a real difference.

Your role

As a Principal youll contribute to the successful delivery of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) environmental planning and consenting strategies across major infrastructure programmes.

Youll help teams understand environmental risks and opportunities develop effective mitigation strategies and communicate complex environmental issues clearly to clients and stakeholders.

Working as part of multidisciplinary project teams youll have the opportunity to take ownership of key workstreams while also helping to develop our people capabilities and growing environmental business.

What youll be doing

  • Lead and contribute to EIAs including screening scoping and Environmental Statement chapter preparation across T&D energy water and transportation projects.
  • Undertake environmental baseline studies constraints analysis and impact assessments turning technical information into clear actionable advice.
  • Coordinate specialist environmental inputs including air quality noise biodiversity landscape water environment and climate ensuring a coherent and robust assessment.
  • Support and contribute to DCO TCPA and sector-specific planning and consenting submissions for linear and major infrastructure schemes.
  • Develop and implement environmental mitigation strategies helping project teams identify manage and reduce environmental risks.
  • Build positive relationships with clients local planning authorities regulators statutory consultees and community stakeholders.
  • Contribute to consultations technical workshops stakeholder engagement and project reporting.

What youll bring

Were looking for someone who combines strong environmental knowledge with curiosity collaboration and a desire to make a meaningful contribution to major infrastructure projects.

Youll ideally bring:

  • A good understanding of EIA Regulations environmental legislation and planning frameworks with the ability to apply this knowledge to real-world projects.
  • Strong analytical skills with the confidence to interpret data identify environmental constraints and contribute to robust technical assessments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex environmental matters clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong organisation and time-management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and contribute effectively across multiple projects.
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to work proactively within multidisciplinary teams building positive relationships with colleagues clients and stakeholders.
  • An interest in or experience of the environmental challenges and opportunities associated with T&D energy water or transportation infrastructure.

Qualifications & Experience

  • A degree in environmental science environmental planning engineering or a related discipline.
  • Relevant experience supporting or delivering EIAs environmental planning or consenting projects ideally within an environmental consultancy engineering consultancy or regulated industry.
  • A working knowledge of UK planning policy environmental legislation and the consenting process.
  • Progress towards or an interest in achieving professional membership with IEMA CIEEM CIWEM or RTPI is encouraged.
