The Role

Responsible for providing input into and interpretation of design and strategy produced and defined by the Head of IT Operations Technical Development Manager and Architectural Contacts.

The role will play a key role in providing input into the delivery of short to medium-term strategic objectives for the Authoritys IT systems and services and includes implementation oversight and delivery of CAA IT Infrastructure and transition into support working as part of the Technical Development Team interfacing with the relevant internal and external Technical Contacts.

The Platform Delivery Specialist is responsible for the delivery of IT infrastructure in line with the companys business goals and will be responsible for providing input into the optimisation of infrastructure system management approaches through an understanding of evolving business needs and technology capabilities.

Core Accountabilities

  • Provision of technical input to Infrastructure projects in conjunction with the Infrastructure Project Manager
  • Manage the build and implementation of technical solutions in accordance with approved Technical and Service Designs ensuring adherence to established change management processes
  • Work with the Technical Development Manager and other relevant contacts to provide CAA with technical direction both at a tactical and a strategic level to assure CAA that any proposed changes to the technical architectures will meet the overall business requirements without placing the business at risk
  • Development of service requirements and transition planning in conjunction with the Technical Development Manager and Service Transition & Quality Lead
  • Provide technical mentoring to ISD staff where required
  • Facilitate the transition of project delivery into various support teams within ISD
  • Define procedures transfer knowledge and document configuration
  • Relate to the business and understand their business requirements
  • Ability to incorporate information from the right sources to quickly identify problems opportunities and alternative courses of action
  • Ability to use (and adapt) modern technology skillfully and appropriately to provide solutions to problems
  • In conjunction with the wider project teams provide coherent solution design and delivery of CAAs IT projects. Interfacing with the IT workstream Project Manager solutions architects as required throughout the project lifecycle
  • Delivering solutions within specified deadlines
  • Implement change and service requests according to change management procedures
  • To act as 3rd line escalation point for Service Desk Deskside and Operations Support functions
  • Pro-actively Monitor capacityavailability and performance of all Infrastructure platforms to ensure availability and to maintain SLAs
  • Act as technical resource for assigned Infrastructure projects and assist with implementation according to technical design
  • Provide on-call support as part of a rota to be able to respond at short notice to high priority incidents out of hours

About You

Essential:

  • Demonstrable specialist knowledge of Infrastructure development lifecycles in a complex environment
  • Relevant technical knowledge and experience of designing and implementing cloud based technologies specifically Microsoft Azure environments Office 365 services also including: Networking (LAN WAN) Network Operating Systems (Windows Linux) and server and application virtualisation (Citrix Microsoft) Storage and Security
  • The ability to negotiate with external suppliers and members of the business community to satisfy business needs
  • Be self-motivated and have the ability to motivate and influence others
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with colleagues 3rd parties and management at all levels
  • Project delivery experience working within a Prince 2 environment knowledge of Agile and Waterfall approaches would be beneficial
  • Desirable - SharePoint Designer experience:
  • SharePoint configuration and support (Essential)
  • Migration From file shares to SharePoint Online (Desirable)
  • In-depth working knowledge of main Business Systems and the ability to maintain the system utilising the tools available within the system
  • Formal technical accreditation in Infrastructure technology such as:
    • Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP)
    • VMWare Certified Professional (VCP) / VMWare Certified Advanced Professional Datacenter Administrator (VCAP-DCA);
    • Citrix Certified Enterprise Engineer (CCEE) for Virtualisation;
    • CISCO Certified Network Associate (CCNA) / CISCO Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

Additional Information

For many appointments within the CAA these roles require access to operationally sensitive infrastructure and/or Nationally Protected information. For these roles the post holders must undergo National Security Vetting and achieve the appropriate level of clearance.

SC - To be vetted we will usually expect a reasonable period of residency in the UK so that meaningful checks can be this role this will need to be 5 years.

Relocation & Property

The CAA will be relocating from Aviation House (Our Gatwick Office) to new premises in a few years time. Our move is driven by strategic operational and environmental considerations.

We will be moving to a new local home up to a 15-mile radius of Aviation House to minimise disruption for our valued colleagues and customers.

We are now working with colleagues and visitors to understand what we need in our new office before we start our property search. We will sell Aviation House and land vacate the site and move to new premises but we do not expect to move before 2028
