Pension Specialist
Job Summary
We are seeking someone with strong communication and analytical skills to join Octopus to work as a Pensions Specialist. This role will sit in a team responsible for launching new products and services and have day-to-day responsibility for our pension splitting work withamicable another company in Octopus Group.
This is a client-facing role where you will own pension-related work within divorce cases and act as the primary point of contact throughout the lifecycle of each case. You will produce Pension on Divorce Expert reports using our pension calculation tools while ensuring clients feel supported informed and confident during what is often a complex and sensitive period.
The role is not actuarial and does not involve expert witness work.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients.
- Build strong trusted relationships with clients throughout the divorce process.
- Communicate potentially complex pension matters in a clear calm and accessible way.
- Provide reassurance and guidance to clients dealing with sensitive financial and personal circumstances.
- Manage expectations proactively ensuring clients are kept informed at every stage.
- Lead client discussions and maintain a consistent high-quality client experience from instruction through to completion.
- Act as an introducer to other Octopus Group companies and services.
- Oversee and/or review pension sharing calculations and related outputs.
- Interpret pension benefits across Defined Benefit (DB) Defined Contribution (DC) and hybrid arrangements.
- Work with Cash Equivalent Transfer Values (CETVs) and scheme-specific benefit structures.
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of all technical calculations and supporting documentation.
- Apply pension knowledge in a practical case-focused manner.
- Manage a portfolio of divorce-related pension cases end-to-end.
- Prioritise workload effectively to meet deadlines and client expectations.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure timely and accurate delivery of outputs.
- Identify and resolve issues or risks early in the process.
- Maintain clear case records and ensure high standards of documentation.
- Work closely with solicitors financial advisers and other professionals involved in divorce proceedings.
- Contribute to a collaborative service-led approach across all client interactions.
- Support continuous improvement of internal processes templates and client experience.
- Relevant pensions qualification and experience (e.g. PMI DipPFS)
- Strong knowledge of UK pension schemes including DB and DC arrangements.
- Familiarity with Cash Equivalent Transfer Values (CETVs).
- Awareness of relevant guidance (e.g. Pensions Advisory Group) is desirable.
- 3 years experience in pensions administration consultancy financial planning paraplanning or a technical pensions role.
- Experience working with different types of pension schemes.
- Proven experience in a client-facing role ideally involving complex or sensitive financial matters.
- Experience acting as a primary contact for clients.
- Demonstrates strong ability to build trust-based client relationships.
- Communicates complex information in a clear structured and reassuring manner.
- Shows empathy discretion and emotional intelligence in sensitive situations.
- Takes ownership of the client experience ensuring continuity and consistency.
- Confident in leading conversations with clients and managing expectations effectively.
- Strong understanding of pension structures and benefits across multiple scheme types.
- Able to review interpret and sense-check pension-related calculations.

This role is not actuarial and does not involve acting as an expert witness or providing court testimony. The focus is on delivering high-quality pensions expertise in a practical accessible way alongside exceptional client relationship management.
A key success factor in this role is the ability to combine technical pensions understanding with the confidence and interpersonal skills required to build trusted long-term client relationships.
