The Opportunity
Were looking for a detail-oriented and motivated Payroll Assistant to join our Finance team and play a vital role in ensuring our 600 colleagues are paid accurately and on time every month.
This is more than just processing numbers youll be supporting the people who keep our business running resolving queries with care and contributing to continuous improvements in our payroll processes. Its a role where accuracy meets empathy and where your work directly impacts employee satisfaction.
What Youll Be Doing
- Processing monthly payroll for 600 employees across multiple locations
- Managing new starters leavers and pay variations with precision
- Responding to employee payroll queries with professionalism and empathy
- Ensuring full compliance with HMRC regulations and UK payroll legislation
- Processing statutory payments timesheets and variable pay elements
- Supporting year-end procedures and statutory reporting
- Contributing to process improvements and system efficiency
- Working collaboratively with HR and Finance teams
- In-house payroll training to operations
What Were Looking For
Essential:
- 3-5years in-house payroll processing experience
- GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
- Strong understanding of UK payroll legislation PAYE and NI
- Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to meet strict monthly deadlines whilst maintaining quality
- Confidence with payroll software and MS Excel
- Outstanding communication skills and professional telephone manner
- Discretion when handling confidential information
Desirable:
- CIPP qualification or other reputable payroll qualification (or working towards it)
- Experience with large payrolls (500 employees)
- Background in facilities management or service sector
- Knowledge of pension auto-enrolment
- T&A rollout engagement and compliance experience
