Pastoral Support Officer – Secondary School – Coventry

A forward-thinking Secondary School in Coventry is looking to appoint a dedicated Pastoral Support Officer to strengthen its student support team.

The successful Pastoral Support Officer will provide day-to-day support to pupils who may require additional guidance with behaviour attendance wellbeing or engagement.

Responsibilities will include:

• Providing targeted pastoral support to identified pupils.

• Building positive and professional relationships with students.

• Supporting pupils experiencing difficulties with attendance or engagement.

• Working with Heads of Year and pastoral leaders.

• Monitoring pupil behaviour and wellbeing.

• Supporting individual intervention programmes.

• Keeping detailed and accurate records.

• Communicating with parents and carers.

• Supporting meetings with pupils and families.

• Helping pupils develop strategies for managing behaviour and making positive choices.

• Supporting students returning to school following periods of absence.

• Liaising with teaching staff regarding individual pupil needs.

• Identifying concerns and escalating them appropriately.

• Supporting school-wide behaviour and pastoral initiatives.

• Contributing to a safe respectful and inclusive school environment.

The role may also involve supporting pupils during unstructured times such as break and lunchtime.

The school is seeking an individual who is:

• Experienced in pastoral support youth work education mentoring or a related field.

• Confident working with secondary-aged pupils.

• Calm and consistent when dealing with challenging behaviour.

• Approachable and able to build trust with young people.

• A strong communicator.

• Able to maintain clear professional boundaries.

• Confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Able to maintain accurate and confidential records.

Experience working with pupils who have additional needs behavioural challenges or attendance difficulties would be particularly beneficial.
