Job Summary

A welcoming and ambitious secondary school in Manchester is seeking to appoint a dedicated Pastoral Officer to join its pastoral team on a full-time permanent basis from October 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to learning. Working closely with students families and staff the successful candidate will play a key role in promoting wellbeing improving attendance and behaviour and ensuring every student is supported to achieve their full potential.

The school places a strong emphasis on pastoral care and is looking for an individual who can build positive relationships while maintaining high expectations.

The Role

Working alongside Heads of Year and senior leaders the Pastoral Officer will provide day-to-day pastoral support for students across the school.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting students with their wellbeing attendance and behaviour

  • Building positive relationships with pupils parents and carers

  • Monitoring student progress and identifying those requiring additional support

  • Working alongside teaching staff to remove barriers to learning

  • Supporting attendance meetings and pastoral interventions

  • Liaising with external agencies where appropriate

  • Maintaining accurate pastoral records and documentation

  • Promoting a positive inclusive and supportive school culture

The Successful Candidate

The school is looking to hear from compassionate and resilient professionals who have experience working with young people in education youth work mentoring safeguarding or pastoral support.

Excellent communication skills strong emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust with students and families are essential. Previous experience within a secondary school would be advantageous but is not essential.
