Based within the Empower Contextual Safeguarding Team within the Central Area of Lancashire (Preston Chorley South Ribble and West Lancashire) the Parenting Support Practitioner reporting to the Team Manager or Senior Social Worker plays a crucial role in providing guidance assistance and practical support to parents or caregivers. This role aims to enhance parenting skills strengthen family relationships and promote the well-being and development of children. The Contextual Safeguarding Service works with families whereby children are experiencing harm outside of the family home.

As a Parenting Support Worker you would be supporting social workers within the team to undertake identified pieces of work working directly with children and parents to achieve change within families. The role requires you to record all sessions in an analytical way onto the child/rens LCS records. Attendance at group supervision is necessary as this informs work to be completed and reflect on how to achieve best outcomes for the child/ren.

Key responsibilities:

  • Developing Support Plans:Collaborate with social workers the children and the multi-disciplinary team to develop plans with parents or caregivers. Address specific concerns and goals outlining strategies and interventions to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Providing Guidance and Education:Offer practical advice information and evidence-based strategies to parents or caregivers on various aspects of parenting including adolescent child development behaviour management and safety planning.
  • Building Parenting Skills:Assist parents or caregivers in developing effective parenting skills such as communication setting boundaries promoting positive behaviour and nurturing healthy attachment and relationships.
  • Facilitating Parenting Programmes or Workshops:Organise and facilitate group sessions or workshops on parenting topics providing a supportive environment for parents to learn from each other share experiences and acquire new skills.
  • Offering Emotional Support:Provide emotional support and empathy to parents or caregivers acknowledging their challenges and concerns and helping them build resilience and coping strategies.
  • Advocacy and Referral:Assist parents or caregivers in accessing appropriate community resources services or support networks that can further enhance their parenting skills and address specific family needs.
