About the Job

The Newham Apprenticeship Scheme offers an opportunity for you to start an exciting new career whether this is your first job or you are returning to work after a career break or you are looking for a change in career direction.

Earn as you learn whilst working alongside experienced colleagues who will help you to develop the skills the council needs. There are even opportunities to progress to a higher level apprenticeship in the future avoiding tuition fees and potential student debt.

DETAILS OF JOB

As an apprentice at Newham you will receive:

  • Quality training to include up to one day a week formal training

  • Two years fixed-term contract with Newham Council

  • Line management and colleague support

  • Access to a mentor

  • Being part of an apprenticeship network

  • Additional training opportunities

  • Support to enhance your CV and interview skills

  • Up to 24 days annual leave exclusive of three additional days that

    • are taken between 26th December and 3rd January. All employees

    • receive 8 public holidays per year.

  • 36 hour working week

  • Flexible working (where appropriate)

About You

  • GCSEs or equivalent qualifications (only if you definitely require your apprentice to have this)
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and use own initiative.
  • A commitment to deliver high-quality services to Newham residents and a knowledge of local issues.
  • Organisational skills with the ability to focus on achieving targets.
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Good ICT skills
  • A commitment to undertake and complete a qualification via a structured apprenticeship training programme.
  • Basic level of work experience

About The Training

You will be undertaking a professional apprenticeship standard.Details of which can be found below

Business Administration Level 3

To successfully complete the Apprenticeship not only must you meet the performance standards required but you will also need meet the off-the job learning requirements.

If you dont already have GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent you may need to complete Functional Skills training in Maths and English as part of your apprenticeship.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Attending all classes

  • learning and developing practical skills

  • participating in classes and workshops on and offsite

  • observing all employee processes and procedures

  • completing tests and assignments

  • delivering presentations to colleagues and other stakeholders.

You should be well-organised flexible and willing to assist wherever possible.
